Dream: My house is on fire

I'm going through one of those phases where I have six or seven really vivid, powerful dreams every night. This one is from last night and really struck me.

What I can recall of it was that my house was on fire. This wasn't the apartment I live in now, nor any home I've ever owned or rented, but a very tall townhouse-like terraced house. The fire was spreading from the roof down, and rather slowly, making it possible to get a lot of things out of the lower part of the house before they were consumed.

The interesting thing was I wasn't bothered. Somebody else was there - I have no idea who - and they would suggest that I should go and get this or that from the house, but I really didn't mind at all. Neither of us were remotely worried about the fire, or the house, or the outcome. It felt, oddly, as though it was 'right' that this was happening. I do remember at one point going into the house and taking a small picture, a piece of art, basically, but it had flames jumping out of the top so I left it. There was no fear involved, just a sense of calm.

I wondered if it reflected the radical changes that are about to happen in my life, and the radical changes that have taken place in me over the past few weeks. Although at the moment I'm in an ebb phase, where there's nothing going on and all I can do is wait for the next thing, I've done a great deal of work on me and the things that hold me back. I'm still not quite adjusted to this new sense of being and thinking - it's like upgrading the OS on your computer and discovering all these new things that it does much more easily than before.

In dreams, a house often represents your body. So if your attic is on fire it has to do with your head and if it's your basement then perhaps it's your feet.

As you were telling the dream it made me feel like you are getting a lot of divine guidance through your crown chakra and it's permeating down through the lower ones. You felt calm, not freaked out, which sounds right to me.

The fire spread slowly, allowing you time to get things out of the lower floors... sounds like a spiritual cleansing to me. And there was even someone guiding you.

very spiritual dream in my opinion. Sounds like good things are happening.

Do you feel like you are "on fire" in your intentions and in living a life you love? It's interesting that it's a tall, terraced building -- a conflagaration that can be seen for miles, and everybody has a point of view of it! And the thing you thought was worth saving, the art: your creativity, which you recognized was also being transformed by the fire, and you trusted yourself to let it go, because you knew it would self-renew, bigger and brighter.

You certainly seem to be burning bright for all to see. What are you going to build next?

I think you're right - if there's any message to the dream it's to stand back and let myself burn. I've had a tendency to try to clamp down the fire that comes out of me from writing Amnar (my fantasy fiction series), but the fact that I just stood back and allowed it to burn is very much like the feeling that's been growing inside me that now's the time I can just sit back and let the whole thing take light by itself.

Hi Tom,

I think that's natural. I don't think my dream was indicative of anything happening to your house. I see dreams as a reflection of what's going on in our minds, not as an indicator of the future.

Gosh what a vivid and amazing dream.
Fire is purifying and fertilizing. There are some seeds that cannot grow unless a forest fire occurs. Fire is also creativity, passion and energy. Fire gets you moving, makes you hot (in all manners of the word!), and fire gives inspiration. Fire brings light and clarity. Fire rules Aries, Leo and Sagittarius and very basically relate to your self, courage, leadership, creativity and spirituality.

It certainly sounds a very healing process - especially as you are calm. You recognise you can let go off things. You 'picture this' and let it go. All that was before is consumed yet the ashes will nourish the things you do in the future.

It sounds as though you have done a lot of work to cleanse and move forward in your life and this dream is showing you the ower of that transformation.
