Has anyone ever spoken to their spirit guide in a dream?

For a number of years i have tried to speak to my spirit guides in my dream and also solve problems in my dreams. But it hasn't worked.

Has anyone on this forum done it and how did they achieve it?

It's possible you did, but don't remember it.

I'm not sure I would know what my spirit guide would look like or how I would know it was them. Looking forward to other's responses.

I have seen archangel Michael and Jesus in dreams. I don't remember what was talked about, only the incredible peace and love I felt. Also, I've visited some very strange but beautiful areas that seem beyond what my waking mind can comprehend.

I've only ever managed a lucid dream once. And even then it was very sluggish and not very clear.

I don't even really remember my dreams. But i am starting to try to have a relationship with them to get closer to lucidity. I have a dream diary - i don't remember much still but i suppose it's a start..

I´m no expert in the subject, as I am still trying hard to get in touch with my spirit guides...but I would think that it might be easier to get in touch with them while you´re awake...just meditating and relaxing.

Lucid Dreaming is very hard...I had one once...and all I can remember is that I was so excited that I was lucid dreaming that I tried to fly, fell down and woke up... But meditating and relaxing and really trying, consciously to communicate with them is a more controlled environment. Anyway, those are only my two cents. But like I said, I´m just learning too, so it will be interesting to hear what Erin has to say about it.

I asked if you were a lucid dreamer because I would have been surprised if you were lucid and still could not interact with your guides.

if you don't recall your dreams then you may not even know if you had contact with them.

You can use meditation practices to reach your guides or you can try a lucid dream. Relying on a non-lucid dream could be tougher.

I've heard so many different accounts of people first realizing their connection to their Spirit Guides that all I can surmise is that it is truly a personal experience.

However, that being said, there are a few comonalities. First, it does seem to be easier in an awake, but meditative or prayerful state. Quieting the mind and silencing the constant chatter that bounces around inside our skulls is essential for us to hear our guides. Therefore, a meditative state that has eliminated that background noise allows us to tune in to the connection.

Secondly, many people think that the messages they are getting are just their own imagination or that they are talking to themselves. Many people I've known have said they never Journeyed or connected with their Guides, but in reality they had been since they were kids. They just thought the ideas, images and messages that popped up in their "minds" was just that - in their minds. They were wrong.

Your guide(s) have been with you you entire life communicating with you and trying to help, direct, support and protect you since before you were actually born. You've never NOT had them talking to you. Therefore, it is easy to believe that what you experience as "thought" is nothing more than your own imagination.

The first time I connected with my Guide, it was like striking up a conversation with someone who'd always been right there but that I just never overtly acknowledged. There was no sense of, "Oh, there's a new presence," or "My...I've never seen/heard/felt you before." It was simply me acknowleding him and asking, "Who are you?"

That first encounter was 18 years ago and we've had a great relationship since.

If I could offer any advice, it would be to first learn how to quiet your mind. Then, once you've succeeded at that, allow yourself to trust that what you're hearing, feeling, and seeing, are less the products of your own imagination and more the result of you actually "listening" to your Guide(s).

Of course, you may just get a big 'ole slap upside your spiritual head that says, "HELLO! What took you so long??" Guides do have a sense of humor.

As I was reading this, I felt like this person was telling my story. I have been connected to my spirit guide since 2004. And since then, it has been a very nice journey for me. Our relationship is stronger now because I can call him at any moment to guide me whenever I want to. And he (I named him Dominic -don't ask me why...I don't know...it just felt right) is amazing! He guides me, he protects me, he puts me in the right place at the right time. I "think" that I have another spirit guide..but he is in a form of a DOG ( a black big dog. In most of my dreams, when i am going (walking) towards something that is dangerous, he prevents me from going there and bits me to stop me....I used to be afraid of him but now, I understand better when he is in my dreams. I tried speaking to him in my dreams but, did not get any response.
Anyway, yes, you need to be in a meditative state to contact your spirit guide. And yes, he/she will talk ot you and you will think at first that it is your voice. But, it is amazing what u can learn from your spirit guide.

Mato Kinze's description makes sense to me and matches my experience. As I have begun to pay attention, I have learned to distinguish between the thoughts that come from my own mind and those that come from my guides. If I choose to, I can even tell which guide is which.

I was once called Mato Manti Ismala - "Bear Walks Alone." But in recent months, that's changed. I've come to see just how NOT alone I truly am and Spirit has hence given me a new Name.

Mato Kinze gave you very very good information. If you are desperate to contact your guide through dreaming, you must first learn how to lucid dream. One must learn to read before they can finish a full novel.

Look into meditation Vee. Also, starting tonight or whenever you have a quiet moment, breath in quietly and slowly with your eyes closed. Make a heartfelt statement to your guides, "I would really like you meet you. Please lead me in a direction where I can. I want to hear you and know you." Continue to do this each day, you'll find your way.

The dog in your dream may very well be your totem animal. Yes, basically a guide in the form of an animal. Each animal represents certain qualities or lessons they bring with them to teach you. I've had a lion come aboard recently. Beautiful face it has!

To follow up with CFPurpose's comments on Totems, (my daughter's Totem is also Lion by the way...) If you perceived this guide as a dog, then it probably was. But, just to toss this out there too, it may have been Wolf.

Wolves are often jet black and may be mistaken by those who don't recognize them or have never seen them before as dogs.

Wolf has very different Medicine than Dog.

Besides the link that CFPurpose provided (and besides the thousands that you could find on your own also), here is one that may also give you some great starting points for discovering your Totem and/or connecting with it:

You could also read "Animal Speak" by Ted Andrews. This book has become somewhat of a standard on Animal Totems and our relationship to Animal Spirit Guides.
