Default The Boy With The Incredible Brain

This is amazing.

I wonder what kind of connection he has that the rest of us don't?

Google Video - The Boy With The Incredible Brain

Daniel says he sees every number up to 10,000 as a distinct shape or image.
Quote:
In a multiplication the two numbers hover before him as distinct shapes. The gap in between makes a third shape, which Daniel experiences as a new number, the correct answer.
EDIT: OMG - The blackjack at 30 minutes..

Talking about this in terms of “bad news” or “bad judgment by business leaders” seems archaic. It’s like describing World War One as “a serious diplomatic concern.”
Bruce Sterling about the financial crisis.

Didn't have time to watch the whole video, but the few minutes I did see were amazing.

One minor troubling bit, though: The whole concept of objectifying the dude through a series of scientific experiments put me in mind of that wonderful old movie, The Elephant Man. The doctor, played by Anthony Hopkins, wants to study John Merrick as a medical mystery and protect him from the brutality apparent in Victorian society. But in doing so, he ends up objectifying Merrick as some sort of 'pet project.'

Clearly, the parallel isn't exact and after all it's only a movie. Still, it got me thinking...

He also has a book.

Amazon.com: Born on a Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant: Books: Daniel Tammet

I wouldn't mind one of those PI landscapes. *cough* Christmas. *cough*

Thank you! Thank you so much for sharing this video. It made this day so much richer, and I am glad that I got to see it.

I can add... I've been near one of these savants, no matter if he was as extra-ordinary as everyone else - but he sure was a hundred times more skillful than I was. It was when I went to Norway. He could do calculations with extreme precision (he never made a mistake), numbers that were just off the chart hard.. interestingly, he had the same ability as one of the other savants in this video. He could recall every day in his life (with some exceptions to childhood of course) - we could ask him what day of the weekend it was on that or that day of that or that year, he could also say what he was doing that day, and I have no reason to believe he was lying.
An amazing person. Today I wish I had asked him more HOW he did it but I get rather uncomfortable talking about extraordinary things in front of my parents like I was then, so I just kept quiet mostly. I wonder if he experienced the same things as this man did.
