Unhappy Astral Projection Problems, I really need some help

Hey everyone, I've been lurking around these forums for awhile now reading all I can about Astral Projection. For the past month I've been practicing meditation and Astral Projection. I've literally read 60+ hours on the subject when I first stumbled upon it. I find it so interesting that I cant stop thinking about it. I'm 22 years old, and finally have had some profound experiences with myself and found myself on a whole new level of a relationship with myself. I feel as if I have progressed well up until now.

Here is my problem(s)...

I can quiet my mind to the point where vibrations take hold of my body. My body is completely relaxed where I cant feel my limbs. While I'm vibrating, I have never been successfully been able to come to the point of bordering sleep while the vibrations are in full force. It seems as if all the concentration on trying to keep a void pulls me from feeling tired to the point where it is easy for me to fall asleep.

Now I have tried various mindsets to try to rectify my situation. I try focusing on just a single infinitesimal thread, absolutely nothing, my third eye, and my breathing. All seem to work to bring on the vibrations but I still cant get to the borderline of sleep. Some things I've noticed are:that my eyes seem that they cant stand perfectly still, if i relax my eyes completely, it's hard to keep them closed and it seems that light seems to flicker in the corner of my eyes if they are completely relaxed, if i try to focus straight in front of me, my eyes begin to wander with the light shapes moving across my field of vision.

For some reason it is difficult to remain completely passive and receptive while the vibrations are in full force. And when I do try to be passive and receptive while the vibrations are there, they start to dwindle down. Are there and tips on trying to make your mind fall to the borderline of sleep while the vibrations are in full force?

I've read most major and minor website on astral projection and none seem to help me in this department. Robert Peterson's book seemed to be the most helpful but still isn't very specific with my problem. I haven't been able to get hypnogenic imagery with the vibrations. I have been able to get a wind sound in my ear that I think has to do with the astral plane but sticks around for about 7 seconds.

Please I need help badly, I usually am a fast learner, but have been stuck at this point for awhile now. I actually feel kinda dirty having to get help just because I can usually figure stuff out with just information that everyone else sees.

Thanks, sorry for the long post, but I'm getting a little frustrated, and I know that is counter productive, but I'm losing 3 hours a sleep a night trying to succeed!

First of all, skrivars, welcome to the site.

I can't speak for the whole "astral projection" thing, because frankly I'm not convinced that it's real.

But your post goes to another point about learning a new skill, almost any new skill, and as such I think it's applicable.

It's very common for a learning curve to plateau for a while. I remember when I was first learning to touch-type that I got stuck at between 30 and 40 words per minute for the longest time. It frustrated and annoyed me to no end.

Then, for reasons I don't entirely understand, something just "clicked" and the plateau was breached - to mix a metaphor - and now I can hum along at about 90 words per minute.

So please don't let the frustration bog you down. It's normal, natural and a regular part of learning anything new.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply,

I agree 100% with you, but I have never been stuck at a stage as long as this. I guess i just need even more patience. Thanks for your words of wisdom. Sometimes i just need someone to say sometime wise to that extent to break my frustration.

As for astral projection, i feel 99% that it is indeed real from to many experiences i have read. I almost know it is real, but cant be for certain until i actually experience it.

Hehe, you will get to that state when you will feel ready.. don't force it, it will come by it self. I also tried to force getting into astral projection state but i feel not ready yet.

I wish you all the best in the quest!

Default Astral Dynamics Mind-Split

Robert Bruce has a book called Astral Dynamics that might interest you (if you haven't read it already).

He talks about using "tactile" senses to project instead of visualization. A system he calls New Energy Ways (NEW). It is very similar to tai-chi, ki-gong and others energy movement systems.

He also talks about something called the Mind-Split. Very interesting concept. His theory is that the Astral body sometime projects, has an amazing experience, but the memory of it gets "copied over" by the memories of the physical body (which is still dreaming and sometime even awake) as the Astral body is flying around.

It sounds far fetched but I think he has a point because I've had double and triple dreams in which I am have two and three dreams simultaneously. Or two or more "dreams" seem to overlap and I can barely remember the one that was MOST important even though I feel like I've forgotten something extremily important.

One of the ways to remedy this is to be aware that it can happen.

Wink

Awesome, i actually have that book on my list of books i need to buy. I'm short on cash right now, but I intend on owning that book soon. I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Also, last night i was in a dream. For some reason i started staring from a trampoline into a small grassy area right in front of me. All of a sudden a barn/house appeared out of no where. I didn't get startled and accepted what i was seeing. Moments later everything turned black and felt as if my body was being sucked down into a black abyss. What makes me think this was the onset of an astral projection was that i was actually feeling strong sensations across my entire body. I consulted with my subconscious when i woke up, and it confirmed that it was indeed the onslaught of my first conscious astral projection. The down side of it was that i was over come with the sensations of what was happening to me, not that i was scared, but that i lost my focus and 10 seconds later woke up. I wasn't snapped into my body because i don't think i completely left my body but was in the process of it. Very cool stuff. Progress like this gives my chills running up and down my body.

Ill keep the thread updated with any further noticeable progress.

Hello Skrivars,
I have had an OBE several times before, but they were spontaneously induced. I have recently became interested in this subject again. Last night, I tried to purposely induce an OBE for the first time. I have made it as far as you are now, we seem to be stuck at the same point. So, any advice that you may receive and deem helpful, send it my way and I'll do the same for you.

Hi skrivars, I completely understand your reasons for wanting to have an astral projection experience, and the things that go with it- the assurance, the stronger meaning of life, and finding out answers.

I've been interested in it too, for some of the same reasons. I think the answers from the other posters are prety right, it takes practice, like anything else, like riding a bike, being a good dancer, learning something new.

I have some suggestions that i have used myself with success;

To help learn to get to or stay in the bordline sleep state, you can practice during the day with perhaps one of those mind frequency CDs that drive your brainwaves into deep states of relaxation.

The purpose is not to try to have an O.B.E, but to practice reaching a deep sleeplike state while listening, then practice to keeping yourself alert whenever you see dreamlike images or feel yourself drifting off.

For example, when you are deeply relaxed, and began seeing dream-like images as if you are drifting off, then alert yourself and say something like, 'this is a dream' and awaken yourself a little. Then allow yourself to drift off again and do the same thing each time.

If you can keep that up for longer periods, then you are drifting along the borderline sleep state.

As for learning to be relaxed enough during the vibrations, here's an idea- before you lie down to begin your practice, stretch every part of your body, for a few minutes each- feet, legs, torso, chest, shoulder, arms, head.

Do it a number of times. The purpose is to tire your body out so relaxation comes very naturally and quickly, and plus, your limbs won't be as anxious to move because they are relaxing after the stretching.

Counting down from a large number to 0 also helps a lot.

And finally, during the day when you are awake you can practice too, by wondering or questioning every 30 minutes if what you see is a dream..it can possibly prime your mind to do the same thing when you are asleep and dreaming.

Hope this and the other poster's advice helps, skrivars, good luck and take care....

Once you're in the vibration/noises/sound of rushing wind phase, you don't need to worry about whether you have to sleep or not. Basically, you don't. You can set off right from where you are.
Take it easy, don't get hyper about it, and don't try forcing anything, but the next time you're in that phase try letting your legs float up. I can guarantee it will not be your physical legs you will feel lifting.....And I can almost guarantee it will happen fairly effortlessly.
First time it happens, you'll get one of those "Oh wow! I did it!" feelings (which may result in coming straight back again)
So next time, let them float again, then play. Look at your legs, see if you can make out details (which would be on the physical legs or feet, such as scar/hairy legs/etc.....I'm a girl, so I always look at the state of my toenail varnish!) You will likely find that the astral counterpart of your legs is to the detail like the physical ones, though not always.
Ok, next, try arms. Let them float out. Try to 'see' again. Betwixt and between, you might find seeing difficult, but as you get more used to doing this, vision happens naturally.
Once you are used to floating the legs and arms out, try just floating your whole body out. Just aim for the bottom of your bed. If you get right out, I would stay in your room at first (if you can) until you get accustomed to all this stuff more.
There's more........of course, after this. But try the first steps first.

Also I would not worry about losing sleep over this. When you do get out, you will find the experience has energised you in a very positive way. It is as though there are regenerative forces which mysteriously support you. And you will benefit as if you'd had hours of sleep.

I just posted this on another thread and when I ran into this thread I realized I posted this info in the wrong place!

I would like to share my astral experience with you, I hope you don't mind. Some years back I was going through depression which made me want to avoid the world around me and just sleep all the time. After large quantities of sleep very strange things would happen visually and physically. I wouldn't be able to move my body and would start to panic, then I would float up towards the ceiling slowly, all the while crying, freaking out badly and fighting this invisible thing with all my might. The more I faught, the faster I would float upwards closer to the ceiling, not being able to control my limbs at all. I felt like I was going somewhere never to return and it was a horrifying feeling. I had these all the time, most of the time accompanied by frighting noises and faces and very tingly sensations. I would try so hard to come back into my body and force myself awake, but a "force" seemed to be pulling me back into that state and it was very strong. Finally I would suck myself back in, and that's exactly what it felt like, getting pulled or sucked back in to the point where my body would jerk like it just got dropped onto the bed.

This would happen regularly to the point where I was afraid to go to sleep. Then one day I came across a book about astral projection and it had all kinds of stories about other people's experiences with it. I couldn't believe it! Same exact types of experiences. After that, I saw these experiences completely differently. The scary parts didn't exist any more. I learned that during these experiences your mind may create dreamscape and in my panic, I created a very negative one, hence the scary faces and noises. I grew confident that when my "astral body" left my real body, it would actually be able to come back and not just go away never to return.

First thing I did when I had another one was look down at my limbs. It was so wierd, I could see my astral limbs. They didn't look like my own arms and legs, more like an illuminated energy shaped vaguely like limbs - they weren't solid.

I think I'm going to stop here because I don't want to bore everyone with a long story (too late).

The gist of it is, I believe everyone separates at least slightly from their real body during a sleeplike state. I think you need to learn how to use your astral body which is quite different then controlling your earthly limbs when you are able to achieve awareness in this state. You have to separate your mind from earthly concepts like solid matter because in this state you are an energy that should probably be able to pass through matter easily, since everything is just engery (does that make sense?). I am by no means an expert on this subject, I just have my experiences to go by. But I'll tell you, it was a beautiful time for me that gave me answers to some of my life questions.

And in answer to your question, when I had many of the early astral projections, it was daytime. I think when you force your body to sleep and your not really tired you may have a chance to enter this state of conciousness, not in the regular sleep state where your body and mind just want to rest and recouperate. I hope I was able to offer something of help to you.

Skrivers,

In response to your original post, it sounds like you are coming along nicely. Take your time with OBE's. For me, it was like I took a small step each time, gradually reaching the point where I could do more, go further, stay longer.

Default Hello!!!!! New member here!!!yeah!!!!And OBE's.......

Well, it says to tell how my parents messed me up,but that would take this whole page, so I am just going to skip that I am a Green witch, who will hopefully be joining the Police academy. I am interested in forensic science, criminal justice, Green magic, Astral Projection, and, well, I'm not going to list everything. I'm sure i will find subjects of interest along the way. And on the subject of astral projection. I for one can attest that they are very much real. When I was a teenager, i would continually have spontaneous Out Of Body Experiences. They scared me because i didn't know what was happening. I actually thought i was being possessed!!!!(You can thank the southern baptists for that!!)So i would always force it to stop before i came out of my body. And one day, I explained theses experiences to a friend who was reading on the subject. He informed me of what they are. And Lo and Behold, that very night i had a successful OBE. It was the oddest, strangest, scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I remember it as if it was yesterday. You know that feeling that you get when your foot falls asleep? Its like that all over your body. But unfortunately, i have not been able to successfully exit my body after that. It was the first and only time. whew!!!!! Sorry for the long post!! Well I hope you all have a blessed day, and for those of you who actually read this, i am sorry for the few moments of your life you will never get back

After reading a book by Robert a Monroe i also found some things to be specific and helpful. You should get the book all explainations are at the end. He says you should relax during the vibrations which will last about 5 minutes. after that you should slowly (mentally or physically?) strech your left or right hand in the direction it is pointed untill you feel what it obviously out of reach. then push it more, your hand will go though it.
Sorry that the best i could do. The book i found helpful was staightfoward otherwise as it didnt read through the lense of 'chakras' and such. I Dont remember the name but its the Prequel to Far Journeys

The only problem was the vibrations chapter was unspecific for me, and i couldnt find any specifics online, so if anyone can tell me how to get vibrations after relaxtion in detail, id appreciate it. i though i knew it but i dont hear roaring sounds ect.

Lightbulb suggestion

maaan.. im in the same state as you and i cant get further.
i think that the only point is just relaz and w8 after you feel the vibrations for at least 10 minutes.

i see the flashing lights in the corner of my eyes too

aand.. i found a really good way to get the vibrations just dildo-like. all you have to doo is get fully relaxed and w8 for about 20minutes after getting relaxed.. then, when you should see random pics etc. with your eyes closed, just imaginise, that you are at a very high bridge (for excample) or a hugh building.. and then just jump from it! weeelll.. i had the emotions, like i would really falling, i felt adrenaline in my stomach and the general - SUPER VIBRATIONS!

and one thing more.. i guess we need to try open our astral eyes... just look into the darkness (real eyes closed) and try to see where you're looking at.

i think it just requires some time, both for trying every day and just we need to w8 while trying

ok, regards

I've only recently started to look into astral projection. But even before I started getting interested in it, I have heard the rushing wind thing. From what I have read in this thread, sounds like it could be related.

It sounds like you're having difficulty with getting into and staying in alpha state long enough. I bet all kinds of fun stuff happens in your sleep, or when you're just waking up. I bet also that your sleep patterns look like the following: you're either awake or asleep. Am I right? You lay down, close your eyes... and drop right off. You don't experience the drifty-dreamy sensations, and I bet you probably don't really daydream much, either.

Check out the hardware first.

Are you taking any kind of sleep aid?

Are you on antidepressant medication (SSRIs or even over the counter stuff)?

Do you consume a lot of stimulants? Do you drink coffee/coke/etc within a few hours of doing your practice?

Do you do vigorous exercise later in the day? The increased adrenaline output and uptake of serotonin can be, to your brain, like drinking a cup of coffee before bedtime.

What's your diet like?

Doing anything that helps your general state of relaxation, will help you out at least a little... meanwhile, think about the things I've suggested, and maybe there's some culprit.

I totally experience this, btw. I'm dealing with it *right now*. Whenever I've been on antidepressant meds, I've dealt with this. They wipe out the theta overabundance where my depression seems to live, but in doing so, I'm kinda locked in beta except when I'm asleep, and have two modes... WIDE AWAKE and DEEPLY ASLEEP. With very vivid dreams much of the night. Is this what you experience?

I noticed that yesterday...I hope they made progress. While I am here, does anyone have any good easy stratagies for preparing to do astral projection?
