Hi everybody, I'm new to the forums and have been reading both Erin and Steve's blogs for a couple of weeks. (I actually found Steve's website when I Googled "hate work" when I had called in sick to work!) I am very interested in this forum because I was told in a reading about a year ago that I have strong psychic abilities that I use all the time. News to me! I asked her how I would develop my abilities and she recommended classes given by one of the new age bookstores. I forgot about it until I listened to the tape of our reading the other day. Now I feel like I may want to find some of these classes but I have apprehensions too. This is why I'm afraid. Starting when I was a teenager I've had some strange things happen to me at night. Not all the time but I'll have several weeks when stuff will happen and then go months or even years before it happens again. I wake up and feel a menacing presence hovering over me or next to me. Once I saw a man with dark eyes walking towards my bed. I'm always terrified. I am also a bit of a skeptic and my upbringing as a Christian taught me that psychic abilities and all of the new age ideas are tools of the devil and that using these tools opens doors to bad things. I also like horror movies, have been battling depression since I was 21 and seem to have these things happen when I'm alone in the room and have been sleeping. Was I dreaming? Do run the risk of open doors to bad things if I choose to exercise my psychic muscle? I have little knowledge in this realm and hope you all have some words of wisdom. Thanks! P.S. I do not practice any organized religion at present and am questioning the existence of God and what I truly believe in that realm. |

Well, specific to waking up and feelign the menacing presence, this used to happen to me, I discovered it was called "sleep paralysis". I couldn't move my body, and I could feel these energy waves in my head. It's what happens when your mind wakes up but your body is still sleeping. It's scary, and many people who experience it feel there is something ominious about it. I think I believed I had been abducted. I learned about it in Carl Sagan's "The Demon Haunted World". And Christianity thinks everything is from the devil, be it pyschic abilities or looking at someone you find attractive and imagining what it would be like to "party" with them, there is not one thing that is different or makes you feel good in the world of Christianity that is NOT of the devil. Makes for quite a guilty, heavy life. |

If the classes at the bookstore are worth anything, they'll not only teach you how to tune in to you psychic abilities, but how to protect yourself, too. The more you learn, the more discerning you'll be. You might like Sonja Choquette's book The Psychic Pathway. If I remember correctly, it's a workbook (set up as a 12-week course) for expanding your awareness and learning to listen to your intuition. She addresses the challenges of growing up in religion early in the book. |

You need protections up - STAT. Seems a common thread with people activating psychic abilities or higher levels of awareness is they come under some type of spiritual attack - or continuing spiritual attack from negatives. there is a saying "we are all psycics". From what I read you definitely have a relatively high level of intuition and connection with universe than an average person has. But I am not sure (and please do not take it as an offense) that your psychic performance will be very strong and profound. I did take psychic development classes. I just it is too much spiritual responsibility to read people. You really have to be good in that. |

I believe that fear is the only devil that exists. That evil is an incarnation of humanity, not some "being" in another realm trying to overthrow good. But fear vibrations can exist in concentrations and can be knowingly or unknowingly sent to and from human soul centers. So unexpected fear, panic, depression, unexplainable sensations of evil call for serious grounding, as the other posters said. But I wouldn't worry about devils or evil beings or being possessed. bemyself, The best thing you can do for yourself is study, study, study! Read everything you can get your hands on. Decide what information "feels" right to you and disregard the rest. Keep an open mind and be willing to shift your perspective and and change your mind when the need arises. Our intentions play an increadable part in our experiences. If you go into this thinking you will see or open the door to bad things, you will. If I was you I would try to adjust my thinking a bit before you try practicing the things you are learning. I think if you do some research on astral projection you will find answers regarding the menacing presence and the man with dark eyes. Another thing to remember is our latent psychic abilities seem to come out all on their own in the state between sleep and awake. The more experience you get in noticing the things you see, the more you will be able to determine what is a dream and what is not. And lastly, relax. This is actually a lot of fun. |

Thank you all for your insights. I have started myself off slow using The Psychic Pathway. Week one is about getting into the habit of meditating everyday and writing everything in a journal that seems intuitive or psychic. That's as far as I've been so far and I plan on taking it very slow. I will also be reading about protection and implementing those suggestions too before I go too far. I don't want to become someone who uses my abilities to see into other people's lives or advise anyone else. I simply want to increase my intuitive abilities for my own benefit so I can lead a fuller, happier and more fulfilling life. |
