Can Some Energy Work Be Dangerous?

I have heard that if you do not know what you are doing, for example, opening chakras, can cause more harm than good. Does any of you experience energy healers know anything about this.

You can get sick if you try to heal someone with your own energy. So don't use your energy. Always draw from the universe. That's a pretty much infinite source.

If I leave my chakras open too widely and then go out like to a mall or other crowded place I start picking up other people's emotions. They stick to me like a magnet. I've learned to pull my energy inward when I go to crowded places.

So if the person have some fixations or mental blocks will there be a boomerang affect that will affect me negatively?

So therefore Erin are you saying if you do not know how to control your energy it can harm you. Should energy work come with some disclaimer .

Acting Like Godot - awesome point! I think that should be energy healing 101, but it amazes me how few people understand this principle. I think ego sometimes gets in the way - people get "I'm the healer, let me fix you" syndrome, and forget that all we are doing is assisting others to draw on their own infinite Source and heal themselves.

Erin - I have the same experience at the gym. Actually, the more spiritual development work and psychic readings I do, the harder this becomes. Sensitivity isn't always easy to deal with.

Neblasian - if we "take on" other people's issues, it can definitely harm us. But that's not our role! Again, some people's egos get in their own way. But whether other people's negativity affects us in any way is always our choice - we're never victims! And yes, I think energy work should be practiced under the guidance of a good teacher. And when you get into psychic and high-level spiritual development work, this is especially true. I continue to work with both my students and teachers - it's so important!

I find that for the most part, I get little interference from energy and spirit as I go about my daily life. I consciously open and surrender to spirit when I'm doing readings then walk back into family and normal life with relative ease.

But... in saying that I had an unnerving experience today when I endulged myself in an hour long facial and head massage. When the therapist was massaging my face, I surcumbed to all the sensual delights of essential oils and soft music then dissapeared into the kaliedescope of colour swirling through my third eye. It all came to an abrupt end when a lightening bolt shot of energy up my spine and knocked the therapist off her stool. She got up sheet white and said she saw her grandmothers face in mine.

I mumbled apologies as I scrambled back into my clothes. As I was about to leave she pressed a business card into my hand saying a client had given it to her but she thought my need may be greater. I looked at the card and it was mine. Talk about embarrassing moments. Needless to say she's booked in to see me next week.

I had an experience earlier in the year that has possibly put me off lustful liasons for life. I'm cautiously single and relatively inexperienced having been in long term relationships. But I responded to the lustful advances of a long term friend some time after his wife had passed away with cancer. We had always sparked off each other and I found him hard to resist. He's spiritually aware but said he'd never seen spirit just felt them around him.

After several weeks of delightful torment we finally did the deed which was followed by a couple of days silence from him then a garbled message about wanting to love me as a friend and finished off with 'oh did you know you transfigured?' I haven't heard from him since. Afterwards I had the usual self reflections of 'how dumb, I asked for it and I'd blown a good friendship.'

A bit further down the track when my head had quietened down it's analysing I got a flashback of it and realised that his dead wife had transfigured through me. At one point he'd held my face with tears streaming down his and asked if I was sure it was ok to do this. He'd already been doing it for a couple hours and I hadn't complained so I thought it was kind of a dumb question. But I realised he wasn't asking me, he was asking her. I was the dumb one. I didn't even know it was happening. Holy heck the poor man!! How do I stop that from happening??

I had a similar experience while getting a massage once. I was in such a relaxed and wonderful state. When she got to my knee there was a visible spark between my knee and her hands. We both said at the same time, "Whoa, did you see that?" As we got to discussing she said she felt tremendous energy coming from me and she'd been basking in it the whole massage. She also mentioned she was a reiki master but at the time I had no idea what that was. She said she had allowed herself to bask in the energy I was giving off and I told her I was feeling such peace and joy while she worked on me. We both just kind of looked at each other but what was there to say? It was strange.

Energy work can be very powerful, and like many other things, has the potential to be harmful if done incorrectly. Using advanced techniques too early or without the proper preparation or prerequisites can cause damage.
