Hello all! (my first post) I have an experience I'd like to share... I haven't had any paranormal experiences in my life thus far, and am not one to embellish either... So here goes. For the past four days or so, when I go to bed, I have been smelling a faint smell of stale cigarette odor. I don't smoke, nor does anybody I know. The odor is above my night stand- not near a window or anything. I didn't think much of it, only that perhaps it was a lingering odor from some clothes I had laying around, even though none of my clothes smell like cigarettes and there were no clothes even in the area. It was bizarre. Lastnight, I woke up at 2 AM abruptly to my printer that was turned off and most likely unplugged, making sounds as if it were preparing to print something. This happened for about 30 seconds. My printer has been unused since January, and it wasn't connected to anything that would make it do this. There is no explanation for this happening whatsoever. Today I was looking on the internet and read that a common indication of a ghost is via smells, cigarettes actually being highly common. Then I put two and two together and am now freaking out that there is a spirit living with me in my studio. My place is new and the previous tenant (a friend of mine) has had none of these experiences. Since the smell has only been around for about four days, I am assuming that if there is something there, it is new. My grandma died a few months ago... she was a smoker for many years. That is the only possibly person I know who this could be. Also, the past week or so, I've been reading this site and about the LoA nonstop. I can't help but think this is somehow related.. that i've opened a gap and somehow enabled this kind of spiritual presence. I am not normally a paranoid person at all. I have a flight tonight and am scared that these were signs not to go on it. I feel like I am going crazy, but I know I'm not. Has anyone had this sort of experience ever and can possibly offer insight? I have no idea how to deal with this situation. Thank yoU! |

It could be your grandmother letting you know she is still there. Try talking to her out loud in your place and acknowledge her presence. If she isn't really there, all you look is a little stupid. If she is there, she will hear you and perhaps go away. It's not an omen that you should skip your flight.

Interesting story for sure... My cousin (who has always been a close friend) used to swear when he was a kid that, right after his grandfather died, he'd wake up at night and could strongly smell his grandpa's cologne next to his bed, which wasn't a cologne that he had in his house at the time. My grandma and two of her sisters (my great aunts) have also claimed that, after their mother (my great-grandma) died, they could hear her rocking chair rocking back and forth in their house (the three of them lived together) sometimes at night. My family actually has all kinds of ghost/paranormal stories, and I used to think I saw such things all the time as a kid. To this day I'm not certain if I just had an overactive imagination (I was an only child and a loner who spent most of his free time playing video games and reading scary books) or if I really did see some of the things I thought I did!

Maybe your grandma needs some help crossing over - it can't hurt to pray on her behalf for a beautiful transition. I agree with Erin - have a chat with her, and tell her it's okay to move on. Earthbound spirits sometimes need loving assistance to move forward on their own journey. If you've been doing a lot of spiritual development work, reading about the LoA, etc., it's likely that your vibration has shifted to the point where you're just more energetically perceptive than you've been before. Get ready for more .... you may have jumped down the rabbit hole :-) |

My wife and I lived in an apartment where, for years, weird things happened. We have independent verification too - every housekeeper / live-in maid we've employed over the years has reported weird occurrences in our home. That's approximately 5 different housekeepers. Funny thing is that somehow you do get used to these things. But things got more and more serious over time. And it went beyond the point of our tolerance, when my little boy saw a ghost. That was when we decided that we could not let things be anymore, and we called in a fengshui-cum-medium-cum-ghost-catcher sort of guy, to cleanse the house. I'd tell you more, but I really don't want to freak you out. It started with small things like odd smells; electrical appliances turning themselves on and off (like your printer); the sound of marbles on the floor in the dead of night .... And it got worse (not suddenly, but over a period of years). Things have been remarkably normal since I got the fengshui guy to do our house. So I would recommend you get the cultural equivalent of a fengshui guy, to come cleanse your house. I don't know your religious background or cultural roots or the country you live in, but I mean people like priests, monks, pastors etc .... I have smelt smoke on occasions too, I felt it was my Grandfather. He made his prescence known in the latter part of 2006, readying me for the loss of my Grandmother on New Year's Eve. He upped the visits during the last week, visiting both my sister and me. Yours maybe just your Grandmother letting you know she is ok, or to give you a message, definitely talk to her - you don't have to wait til you smell smoke. Let her know she is welcome to visit but if she is afraid to go on help her call on family members to come and get her. I and other family members have had visits from my Grandmother since she passed over, they can visit without being stuck here.

In cases like this, the main thing is to see how you feel about it, when you aren't actually scared to pieces. If you can go and have a coffee somewhere and re-think it all over, just the events, how does that actually make you feel? Being frightened is a natural reaction, but if the only thing you can ever feel about it is fear (whether that's valid or not), then you should do something about it. Get a clearing done on it (you don't have to have people actually going to your house, there's plenty of people who do this sort of thing at a distance). However, if you're not totally freaked all the time, then just say 'Hi' to your Grandma (or whoever else) and let them know that you know they're there and they can move along now. The point is, either you want to do something out of fear or out of caring. In the end it amounts to the same thing; dealing with it. The methods will probably vary, is all. |

WOW will have to check that out. With mine it sounded like a bucket of marbles had been dropped in my dining room, from my room I could hear the marbles running across the floor. I do have a container of marbles in that room but when I went out it was still on top of the cupboard and there were no marbles on the floor. A friend moved into her house and a night or two in they started hearing a marble being rolled on the floor. The next day while loading up a set of shelves that had been carried in empty the day before a friend found a marble on one of the shelves. |

Thank you everyone for the great information. I haven't been home (at night) since this happened, but I'll be back tonight. If anything odd happens, I will update. I have purchased some sage and hope this contributes to the cleanse.

Doesnt sound like anything too sinister to me, It would be a little freaky though, but I guess the more you think about it the more you will notice the little things. Its very strange that a printer would make noises though whilst unplugged.

Hello I think that you should do a cleansing of your home with sage and sage root and say a prayer if you want them to leave. the prayer should be the lords prayer and said where you smell the smoke and or walk around the house with the sage and sage root which should be burning at the time of cleasing. Don't be afraid that's if you want them gone if not these enities might some kind of spriit guides and might not mean you no harm if you think that they may be of harm then you should do the cleasing by all means.

This is the kind of stuff that gives me goosebumps and makes my hair rise when I read it. Who needs drugs when you can read about this stuff in the dark at 1:00 am? What a rush! Every sound makes you twitch. Last edited by Carl Carlson IV; 09-23-2007 at 04:20 PM. Reason: added more |

When I was very young, we had an old upright piano in our house. I used to hear that thing playing at night, but just the lowest notes, very slowly. It was strange, but not scary, because I always heard it. It was normal for me. I had another experience I have told very few people about, and this one was scary. So now, the world gets to hear it. It's been about 40 years since it happened. I was about 5 or so, and I was woken up to the sound of glasses being shuffled around in the cabinets , sort of banging into each other. at first, I thought it was one of my older brothers or something, but I realized that it wasn't. Then, I thought it was a burglar, but then, realized it was something else. I was terrified, and I didn't move a muscle. I hardly even breathed. This continued for at least a half an hour or so, and I heard footsteps, and a sort of low, coughing , wheezing sound. It felt evil, and I was really scared. Then, it got worse; much worse. I hear my door being pushed open very slowly (my room was right off the kitchen where the noise was coming from). I could feel something (I can't call it someone; it didn't feel human) standing near my bed really close, but my face was down in the pillow, and I was too terrified to move at all. Then it happened, I heard the most evil, sinister laughter I have ever heard in my entire life. It lasted about 5-7 seconds I guess. It sounded like something from a horror movie, and it was loud. I still can't believe no one else woke up from that sound, but no one did. I can still remember the exact position I was in. I was laying on my arm, and I can still feel my heart pounding when that happened. It was pounding from absolute fear, especially inside my head. It was so loud. I was already petrified, but that was it. I was too scared to move, and everyone else was asleep, so I just laid there without moving at all like I was dead, and praying that whatever this thing was, that it wouldn't kill me. It sounded like absolute evil. It had to be. There was nothing good about this at all. This was no friendly spirit. The next thing I know, it was quiet; nothing at all. whatever it was, it was gone. I was too scared to move or go back to sleep because I thought it might be hiding and waiting for me to move. Finally, my dad woke up (it was morning), turned on the light and came down the hall,. I ran into the hallway and told him what had happened. I was hysterical. He said it was a dream. It wasn't. Thanks for the compassion Pop. That was probably the first time in my life I had stayed awake all night, and I was wide awake out of pure fear. I never heard it again, but it scared me for a very long time. No one ever believed me, so I stopped talking about it. It still gives me the creeps to think about it. My Dad built the house, so it couldn't have been some ghost that died there. Maybe something happened on the property at some earlier time, but nothing ever happened after that to my knowledge. I did hear that piano still, but we got rid of it for a new one and I stopped hearing that as well. Last edited by Betrade; 10-07-2007 at 07:06 PM. |

That sounded terrifying. The fact that your father built the house doesn't mean it can't be haunted, you are right it could have already been on the land or could have been brought it by another means later. You see my father built his house and for as long as I can remember there was something not right. My sister and I both felt prescences - she always said there were monsters that came in at night, I thought it was a witch and a monster. I saw figures on at least 2 occasions. When I grew up I discussed it with my mother who told me she had never seen anything but on the occasions when she was alone in the house at night she couldn't bring herself to sleep in the bedroom end of the house. And when Dad extended upstairs there was something up there too. The framing for upstairs came from another house and I told Mum that I thought it brought a spirit with it. That's when she told me that a lot of the framing in the original house especially the bedroom section was also secondhand. My house is only 7 years old and from pretty early on I knew there was something here, our block of land was subdivided across 2 blocks, one being part of my father's yard and the other across another block that has a house with a spirit in it. All our framing was new. I once noticed a man walking to our backdoor but when I got up to see who it was there was no one there. I also accidently brought an angry spirit in with an item, when I worked out what was wrong I had the item sent back from where it came, but the damage was done by the 'door' being opened for a darker presence to come in. That's what I needed to do a house cleansing spell for. |

Since you and I are new to this, let me tell you my experience. When I first started reading things on this site and practicing some of the methods I think that I opened myself up to another level. I started noticing unusual vibrations around me for no reason and it didn't start until I started reading more on this site and practicing the methods. I think that we lower or rise ourselves to realize and feel these vibrations which could be scary for someone that is new to this and really don't know what they are doing. I stopped doing it and every since then my vibration level went back to normal and I don't have those feelings anymore. If your really feeling scared and nervous I suggest you back up and stop everything that you have been doing...i.e. practicing methods, reading certain posts.
