I'm usually pretty pragmatic. But all our beliefs are shaped by experience and how we interpret what happens around us. I've just posted on my self confidence blog on this, as, having publicised this forum I felt I needed to distance myself from some of the more spiritual postings - especially the paranormal and psychic which go against what I believe. It all comes back belief - in the above post I refer to my recent "trans-rectal prostate ultrasound" and how my beliefs were suddenly thrown and in my distressed state I lost the ability to think rationally (this isn't comfortable reading for anyone who happens to be male!!!) |

While Pragmatism has its place in my life, spirituality has a ritualistic and mystical awe surrounding it that makes 'thinking positively' much more sentimental and exciting for me. For example, the pragmatic approach for me will simply make me feel better because I am thinking positively for the logical reason that feeling good is more productive than not feeling good. The spiritual approach makes me feel excited, not only do I get to feel good as a side effect, but, I have an opportunity to talk with very interesting personalities; see incredible things that are far beyond my eyesight and to believe things that sound crazy to the average joe (that alone is exciting enough for me). Really, though, the divider between pragmatism and spirituality doesn't exist; because there are many times I see myself being spiritual when I think i'm being pragmatic (seeing the meaning of life in my recursive for loop) and pragmatic when I am being spiritual (meditation being the most pragmatic, but spiritual, of many disciplines I suppose). So aren't they really just the same thing?

well.... I use the LoA/SR/incarnation approach, that's clear. Because I am pragmatic |

Having just come across Steve's article on The Law of Attraction, I should add I am very much pragmatic. I am a great believer in the power of positive thinking, goal setting and affirmations. But these are internal processes, that help you achieve things by shaping your behaviour, by adjusting your values and beliefs. IMO you don't "attract" things into your life just by thinking about them - thoughts don't exist externally.
