I live in a pretty big city. Everything you would need is here but there isn’t much sight seeing like in say San Francisco for example. There are no big tall buildings here except for downtown there are about 5 ski rises. Everything else is one or two story except for apartments. I will wind up going to college here since out of state is very expensive. This place is very boring for teens but if you’re an adult it’s like anywhere else. I’ve had some bad memories here growing up but who hasn’t right? I am 17 and still live with my parents which drive me nuts so it’s been sort of hard. But the way I see it a geographical location won’t change anything. If you’re depressed and you change locations you’re still going to be depressed you know? For a long time I was always thinking wow how good would it be to just leave this crappy place. But lately I have realized I’m not depressed because I’m bored or because I live here. It’s just the way I am. So what do you think should I stay or go when I get older? Last edited by dennis08 : 08-20-2007 at 01:30 AM.

| Go travel and have some adventures. Moving to another city won't necessarily make you happy, but it is always a learning experience to move away from home when you are young. I was also depressed at 17, and the most important thing I can tell you is that it is possible to change your life to one of happiness.

If you decide to move, remember that you come with you. Changing locations does not make your problems go away. However, sometimes getting a fresh start in a new city and meeting new people gives you the opportunity to break out of behavior and thought patterns that don't work. It can be easy to let the opinions of our friends & family, as well as our reactions to the way they treat us, shape how we see ourselves. Moving away, especially at age 18-20, provides an opportunity to define who you are on your own terms.

I spent 7 or 8 years travelling around the country (and abroad) spending sometimes a year or so in one place sometimes only a few months... I ended up coming back to my home town, getting married, having a daughter and finding my career in an environmental job i love. So yes i would agree that home is where the heart is - but having a few years out may be a good way to bring that message home - and have a few adventures along the way.

if you decide to stay, make some changes in your life. There's the whole change your situation by changing yourself line of thinking. Paint your bedroom, get a few pot plants (numerous studies support the beneficial psychological effect of live plants in your environment), scented candles, little water feature. Change your sleeping habits, become an early riser if you are not already, cities look different in the morning light. It sounds like most of this stuff is in your head and you can't move away from that, but that is the hardest thing to change, a few superficial changes to your environment will not change your mindset, but it can prove to be a catalyst.
