Default Effective T. Robbins Model

About ten years ago I was really interested in the Tony Robbins message and products. I didn't attend a full seminar but I really emmersed myself into his books and tapes. I kept thinking-- raise my standards, and CANI. I did power moves and was thinking totally positive. I pictured my "new" identity as a powerful achiever. And, for that period of time I was totally "on". My standards were raised and I did do more. In all actuality, it was a positive time.

I don't remember exactly when it changed back to everyday normal life, or why. But it was a good positive experience.

We usually revert to normal when we are no longer hungry... or change the crowd that we hang out with... ...or no longer see ourselves as super-achievers...

That is a slippery slope... complacency is like cancer... we don't feel the sting until it is too late...

It sounds like you had a great time. Did you have a goal or bigger dream back then which you don't have now? Might that be the reason for not living in the "on"-mode still?

I think I remember what that slippery slope was. I raised my standards in everything-- exercises, eating, and not drinking (not that I drink a huge amount anyway). After a month, I said to myself, hey you deserve to a drink. Then slowly the bad habits stated to seep back in. Boy, talk about needing constant vigilance.

Anybody else have a period of time like that?

The first months of 2007 were a list of constant setbacks for me. I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do. My accomplishments were mildly put: poor. It ended when I felt really sick about it and formed a crystal clear vision of what I really wanted.

To me it has helped to have big visions, broken into monthly and daily goals. Then I set a minimum standard: I will, whatever way I feel about it, do this activity for at least x minutes per day. I think the minimum standard is crucial. When I feel down, or insecure about reaching my goals I comfort myself with this daily progress. Brian Tracy calls it "the accumulation of work". Buffon put it: Genius is patience.

Yeah...I'm coming out of a slope now thats lasted over a year now. I didn't even realize it was happening. I miss being happy .

I conquered my social anxiety after highschool. I learned to talk with women and be the life of the party. I was great for a year. Then I isolated myself using the excuse of "working two jobs" (read: "giving in to fear of rejection" )

All my anti-social behaviours crept back in, along with the creepy neuroticism that goes with anti-social behaviour. I worked so hard to get rid of those too!

I used to spout social theory like no one's business, so I know the knowledge is still there, I just need to tap into it again.

Being all that we can be mentally is exactly the same as being all that we can be physically… the brain reacts almost like a muscle… if you don’t use it… you lose it…

The number of muscles in the human body varies from about 656 to 850, depending on which expert you consult… and each of those have to be worked regularly… The brain also has many facets… like memory, logical thinking, self-expression etc… and most of these facets (faculties) have to be worked regularly if we want them to stay sharp and at top peak…

Being positive, being at our peak all the time is one those specialized area of the brain that has to be taken care off regularly…

You may skip a meal… but don’t miss your daily inspirational or motivational moment… read a book on positive thinking… listen to a tape or CD on the subject… or better yet… write a page on the subject… and stay at your peak performance level…

Remember the saying that goes, "Tomorrow I’ll have the things that losers won’t… because today I will do the things that losers won’t…"

I would have to agree with you on the above swede. I find it motivational to have goals planned out and very importantly as well to be able to tell the difference between the person you were yesterday and the person you are today. The ultimate motivator has to be having that BIG vision, something which scares and excites you at the same time.

A good tip i've been told by a psychologist in getting rid of habits or creating new ones is the change something you do, for instance put your watch on your right hand instead of your left, and every time you look at your watch remember the habit you are working on.

Thank you for some very good advice Shamou.

May i also recommend, if you are more interested in how you mind works, to read a book called 'Emotical Intelligence' by Daniel Goleman. I'm only starting to read it now but have already learnt so much!

Cheers

Thumbs up

I think that remaining motivated gets hard if we don't constantly go back to the well and fill up. CANI is an awesome mantra but if you don't are not constantly creating goals for yourself, you may feel complacent and allow past behaviors to return.

Maybe writing down monthly goals for the rest of the year and keeping them in an obvious place where you are exposed to them constantly. This way, you know what you want to improve on for the rest of the year and you have something to strive for.

you need some exciting goals to keep you motivated dude. Tony Robbins calls this "creating your magnificent obsession"

the other thing to focus on is your associations. condition feelings pleasure for taking positive actions and keeping your standards and also condition feelings of pain to inaction and not keeping your standards

finally, keep reading and relistening to Tony's material so that it can really sink in and stay with you.

peace
