| My favorite “big-picture thinker” was The Hon. Pierre Elliot Trudeau… former prime minister of Canada… and his motto was, “Reason before passion…” And, I think, that this is where the key is if we want to have a clear picture of any situation… It has to be done in a scholarly manner with to emotion and no hidden agenda attached… I have also used the “Master Mind Principle” where I have imaginary conversations with people that I hold in high esteem… And, what has also been very helpful for me was to pretend that I would have to give a speech on the subject… I then would prepare for that speech… always remembering that the “audience” may ask for questions and clarification on the subject… it has proved to be very helpful in my case… Lastly, when all that has failed… I ask my wife… . |

| Hi,TheIronStar!! Hmmmm........What are good ways at becoming good at seeing big pictures? Like I said in a previous post,....IMO,I don't think there are really any rules to it(the post was talking about being a right brained thinker). I'm sure there are tons of resources on the subject, and many complicated ways to understand "how to see the big picture"......but IMO I think that the first place you should go is within yourself. There is no better way to start out on this journey. Evaluate what draws you to this desire. Then listen carefully.Look at your surroundings, and concentrate on what you feel.Smell the air.Does the aroma remind you of anything? What sounds do you hear?Do these sounds get you thinking about something in particular? Use this as a springboard,or catalyst to raise your awareness level.Allow yourself to just go there. So simple, yet so effective(at least for me....sometimes... Take care~ opinestle |

| Change perspective and distance yourself from your situation for some time. This could mean taking a trip for a week to another country, taking a day off from work or simply walk/drive another way home. The point is to get a chance to see your life from a different view. You might discover things that you could not see while you were in the midst of it.

| 1) start thinking and trusting in the outcomes 2) see the possible outcomes (I am very visual so this is easy for me) 3) create scenerio's in your mind, which are future tense, role playing it out what this does is get you away from the immediate, opens up your creativity which enables a bigger , broader view |

| Read the classics about strategy and use those models on the world around you. Shift your perspectives. Try to see things from multiple perspectives (and you get those perspectives from the books).

| Scott's post on holistic learning might offer some insight. |

| Just think big. Be comfortable with it. Have faith in yourself. The rest will be taken care of. For instance, years ago I got an amasing offer to build a large housing development. It was a daunting project that a lot of people had turned down. The way I see things...no problem. Just be able to honestly envisage and believe in the end result, in the right way. You either really do, or you don't. You can't fool yourself. I'd never built a thing in my life, totally unexperienced and unqualified. Amasing things can happen. Richard Branson is also a well known example. His book is deluxe, awesome. Not for the faint hearted though. That project turned out amasing. What a stepping stone! |

| You must see the future. The best way I do it is write down what I expect and what I see 5-10 years from now. I dont write a simple answer, I write a detailed version, and everyday I read it. My goal is set and I will not let anything get in my way. Best of luck to you.
