It appears that most posters have a favorite quote, quip or motto attached to their signatures, myself included. What is your favorite quote? Why is it your favorite quote? You don't have to give a reason why it is, you can simply tell us and let our thoughts interpret its message. I will start this thread with the following quote from William Shakespeare..... "Our doubts are traitors, And make us loss the good we oft might win, By fearing to attempt." |

I'll take you up on your proposal. I have a motto of my own that I am generally successful at living by: "Say what you mean, mean what you say and do what you promise to do." If you follow this rule, you increase congruency of actions with words, your sense of personal integrity increases which leads to good self esteem. Your thoughts? |

My favourite quote is Life is not a dress rehearsal. I don't know who said it although Google reveals a lot of books by that title, does anyone know the author? It's my favourite quote and one I live by daily because it really shook me when I first heard it. I realised that I'd lived for years with my dreams on hold because following them wasn't the sensible or expected thing to do. When I heard this quote it really hit me that I only had once chance at life and I had to make the most of it right now, not later, and certainly not in 10 or 20 years time when it was "safe" to quit the steady well-paying job and pursue my dream of being a full-time illustrator. Within weeks of hearing that quote (I think it was on a Brian Johnson podcast from memory) I'd left my safe job and begun my own business as an illustrator (in this economic climate, crazy I know!). It has turned my whole life around. I now have a reason to get up in the morning, and if I died tomorrow the only regret I'd have is not being able to see where my dreams eventually take me, I certainly wouldn't regret not living them because I'm living them right now. Anyway that's my absolute favourite quote |

I'm still new to this site and to the philosophy of the power of positive thinking, etc. but I've always kept in my mind a quote from the cult movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show ... "Don't dream it, be it." I am currently trying to put this to practice with some significant weight loss and to that effect have started a website and journal that hopefully will be a great motivator towards achieving my goal. Diary of a Fat White Woman - My Struggles with Food Addiction Take care everyone and good luck with all your dreams. |

I know of few people who had so much to say in such a short life. Thoreau never reached the age of 50 but has had such an influence on so many people. Here is another quote that is very much aligned with Steve's motto of 'Live Consciously'. Enjoy..... I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestioned ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. Henry David Thoreau |

Something I live by is a quote in one of Stephen Covey's books (I forget which one). It's actually a quote from a book that he himself read and found inspiring. One of those "aha" moments. It is an inspiring and empowering concept to understand! "Between stimulus and response is a space. In that space lies our freedom and our power to choose our response. In these choices lie our growth and our happiness." |

A quote from ancient India (don't know who originated it, but it goes something like this: "Religion is like a finger pointing at the moon. But instead of looking at the moon, many argue about which finger is doing the pointing". |

Fear, more than anger, is the enemy to peace. Also, "We are no longer the Knights Who Say Ni. We are now the Knights Who Say Echi Echi Echi Echi Pikang, Zoom-boing, Wrorl (ni)." In other words, don't put your ego in a label. |

Here are a couple of quotes that guide my own actions: "The time to make up your mind about people is never." The Philadelphia Story - Katherine Hepburn "A life without cause is a life without effect." Barbarella - David Hemmings |
