Default Looking Down on Life

Having read Steve's latest post
on quality and contribution I saw how the two models of reality he mentioned (scarcity and gratitude) could apply to almost anything.

Reading the post got me thinking what I do have, instead of what I don't have (which I tend to think about when I am setting goals). I've also been reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People which starts with a chapter on perceptions of the world.

So here is my thought: When you set goals, why not think about what you do have instead of what you don't have? Why not think about the have achieved instead of the have not achieved? Why not think about the where you are going instead of where you have come from?

While goal setting often involves thinking about what you want, you may find yourself ignoring what you already have. And what's the point of planting new seeds if you are not enjoying the previous harvest?

Hope this helps someone. Any thoughts?
