Default To you outstanding goal achievers:

What questions do you ask yourself when creating yearly and quarterly goals?

Based upon all the blog post and articles I could find on this site, I came up with a list of questions as I worked on planning my goals for this year. My question to you outstanding goal achievers is: What are questions I missed that you would have asked yourself?

Here are the questions I asked myself. I stored each result in a separate page.

Life Goals and 1 Year Goals:

1) What is my life purpose?
2) What are my life goals based on who I want to be as a person, what I want to experience, and on my life purpose?
3) What are my 1 year primary and secondary goals based on these life goals?
4) What is the “Why?” behind each life goal and each 1 year goal?
5) What would these goals do for me in the present?
6) How will I know I have achieved each of these goals?
7) What are pathways identified for each life and 1 year goals?

Quarter Goals:

8) Based on my 1 year goals, what are my 1st quarter goals? (July 15th-Sept15th)
9) What are pathways identified for each 1st quarter goals?

Additional:

10) What are assumptions I have about accomplishing these goals?
11) What are enjoyable ways to achieve these goals?
12) What are the side-effect identify shift I will experience if I accomplish each of my goals?
13) What are global actions I can take on a daily and weekly basis that will help me accomplish my goals?

So, what do you think of this list? Am I missing anything? What else should I ask as I create my plan and my goals?

I am a firm believer of the necessity of goals.

I think you are aware of the fact that the main purpose of goals should be to provide a certain quality for the present moment as opposed to I'll be happy/fine/whatever if I finally reach them (as far as I remember this is Steve).

Another thing is that goals are absolutely necessary but may not be enough alone. I'd suggest you to take a look at David Allen's GTD system which not only gives you a framework for defining your goals but actually provides principles for accomplishing them. You can read my thoughts regarding this system here (you should start with David's second book too). Regarding GTD and goal setting, Google the 6 level model for reviewing your work.

As for the questions you posted, I think they are more detailed than necessary. But that might turn out as a good thing too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback and the link Norbet. I actually started reading the Getting Things Done a week ago. I plan on finishing reading it this weekend so I can have a process to implement the goals. I wasn't aware of the second book, I'll look into it.
