| Rules. Everywhere we go...Rules. Rules that bind us. Rules that tell us how to live or punishment will ensue. Now alot of superheros are idolized by kids. And the reason we as a society lets kids Idolize these child-friendly Superheros is because these superheroes teach that you have to follow the law. The rules are there for a reason. Consider superman. He follows the rules not only of the legal system but of the social system. He conforms with the a-typical american working man ideaology. Now whenever there is an Anti-hero such as shall we say Riddick, from Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, as soon as that violent, Anti-conformity anti-super-hero is shown, the show or movie becomes Adults only, rated 15, or 18, or R if you live in the states...Children arn't taught to be free thinking. They are taught how to follow rules, how to stay in line, and how the super-heros job is never glamourous, never good, and its never something you can do. It always something for someone to do. In todays mainly God-fearing or Government-Fearing society, rules apparently keep us safe. Good and Evil are things outside of us, forces that we use, we DO Good, or we DO Evil. Thus they are judged by some force, be that the Police, CIA, MI5 or God, Allah etc...etc..Never are we to be held responsible for our own actions. Not fully. We are expected to do good to get that reward of safety, peace, freedom etc...etc...or if we do bad, just like a small child who cannot understand what he did, we have to be punished. The fear of that punishment is enough to keep many people quiet and calm. I propose that these rules being imposed are the cause of our problems, NOT the solution as so many claim. Friedrich Nietzsche once said through the mouth of Zarathustra "God is dead" and so many people mis-interpreted him as it saying God has physically died, when actually he meant the concept of God is no longer relevant in peoples lives. We cannot draw moral value from God because we cannot understand God. Friedrich Nietzsche also talked about the Ubermensch, or Overman. I have talked about it before and I would like to talk about it again with a new understanding of it. The Overman is not a person, not a figure, but it is, instead, a state of mind wherin which man overcomes himself again and again, safety and security and laws and rules...they have no meaning. They have no purpose. A law unto himself. The Overman would seem like a God. When in reality he is but the pinnacle of human achievment. The TRUE potential. Rules. Rules are no use unless they are based on fact, not opinion, not moral or social values held in high-esteem by the biggest, baddest conglomoration in the country in which you live...and yet...thats how it is. Isn't it time there was a change? Will all those who want change join me now and we can really find a way to shake the foundations of this society we have so stupidly neglected. |

| Rules have value, they hold a society together. Nietzsches Uberman lives by his own rules, but that is completly different from the absence of rules. Rules have power. No one has to follow the rules, if he is willing to take responsibilty. Nietzsche didn't like the concept of democracy. Freedom is internal and hasn't anything to do with rules. Freedom is the ability to commit. You can go and fight your battle, either replacing the rules or perishing. Without fighting for your own views, for your own rules you can't perserve integrity. The problem in our time is that the stacks get higher. While terrorist who kill a few thousands here and there aren't any real problem and could produce change in society but it gets a problem when weapons get stronger and terrorists could get ABC weapons. Global Warming is another battle, which could produce existencial problems for humanity. Bad science could also blow up own planet. We need rules that are agreed on by everyone to reduce the stackes. If humanity fails to produce those rules within the next 200 years humanity will perish. No one stops you from taking responsibilty for your actions. Claiming that those rules hinder you to take responsibilty is nonsense. If you aren't even able to decide for yourself for responsibility, why do you think that you would take the responsibilty when their weren't rules. Blaming the rules for your own inability to take responsibilty for your actions is as Nietzsche would say slave morality.

As far as changing things, I believe the government reflects the mood of society. If we are to change the way things work we would need to change the way society understands the government. Part of the problem with this is that a large portion of society don't care enough and a large portion don't know what they can do about it. I said in another thread that the government should be running the country for the people, not running the people for the country. The people on a whole need to start seeing the government as their assistant in running the country, not their boss. If enough people want it, the government will change. I'm with you on this one but what is it exactly you want to do? |

| I won't follow you and I don't like the world 'battle' because its a descision not to live by the rules. For me personally I made the descision to stop living by the strange rules of society and only follow the ones that have meaning for me personally. This means that I'm in the process of dropping the social rules from peers/school/media/parents. The state rules I'll follow but only because the prize is to big to pay if I break them... Ps. This ubermensch your talking about, by your discription it pretty much describes most major contributors to society (and its rules). They are the ones who shaped society into what it is today. Its always fun to change the face of the planet and make it more like yourself...

What will the neighbours think! I actually saw another thread in Business & Financial where people were debating whether or not they were allowed to have a lunch break...unbelievable! We've come a long way haven't we. |

| On second thoughts. I can't get Jesus out of my mind. He was one of the nicest guys going...and he tried to change the laws...maybe you'll have to go it alone. But then again, if I get to be a disciple. The Epistles of St Uplift has got a certain ring to it, and you'll be one they oblitherate. I'll speak highly of you! |

| As a society we need to be organized and that's why we have rules. If not, chaos would ensue. If you want to affect change you have to do it slowly and methodically. When you are too radical people tend to dismiss you as a lunatic even if you're right. It takes time for concepts to take hold. Akashic if you want to change people's minds and perceptions do so with your actions, poetry, logic and persuasiveness. Win them over, don't try to shock them into seeing it your way. Incidentally, Nietzsche lost some of his marbles towards the end of his life. Not exactly a point in his favor.
