Default Need Advice on Motivation for Hard Work.

Hi guys.

I'm honestly a bit of a wuss when it comes to work I don't want to do.

As much as it's comfortable and seemingly safe not doing hard work, I want to find that motivation to act.

Without getting into too much detail, the whole thing turns into a downward spiral all the time, and I'd like to get rid of it.

Any of you guys got advice for finding my own motivation?

If any of you have ADHD and OCD, I'd be particularly interested in your answers.

~ David

Well according to my pdoc I have a lesser degree of OCD.. mine does not really cause disruption to my life , so we don't worry about it ,

What I believe has helped with my motivation is working on my attitdues and thoughts, sort of like taking authority overy my mind and making it think what I want it to think, kind of a retraining my brain or reframing my thoughts

ie) lets say I was in a funk... my mood was low , i would start by saying to myself " Just like a bad case of gass , this too shall pass"- so I recognised the problem, but did not let it have authority over me, so instead mood over mind/ it became mind over mood, so the motivation was there, it just needed to be put into practise, NOW I am a very motivated person lol (drives my hubby crazy at times)... lol

what if you were to look at your problem and use the same approach...

ie) you have a resistance built up towards things you dont want to do.. tare the wall of resistance down by recognising it, and the outcome of the downward spiraling effect, make room for new thoughts , the motivation will get stronger (?) for lack of a better term

good luck...

Hi XeutonMojukai,

I am still learning but would like to offer my own experience on getting motivated.

Firstly, never think of anything that you wanted to do as work, because work is always subconsciously associated with hardship, something you don't like but have to do.

Currently my source of motivation comes from my gf! Set goals and target that you love, get excited and looking forward to!

For example, I have plan and written down the things I wanted to do with my gf, and these things really makes me excited and looking forward to them. One of the goal is that I am going with her to Malaysia for holiday coming December!

And then i work out the steps i needed to achieve those things, especially the monetary side, then this is the target i am working towards. For example, I need $1000 to go for the Malaysia tour. So if I use success university as example, I need to recruit about 20 students to earn $1000.

I did not set $1000 as my goal, because that is not the thing that I am excited and looking forward to. $1000 is just the final step to my Malaysia tour. And I did not set recruiting 20 students as my goal also! To me, these are just steps towards my goal!

All these while, I am focusing on my tour, and I actually get more excited while doing those "works" as i know I am getting nearer to my tour every time I complete 1 of the step.

So how about thinking why are you doing those "work" that you are doing now? Focus on the end results, write it down and look at it everyday, you always get motivated by things that you love to do!

Hopes this can help you a bit!

Cheers!

Albert Lee

Are you working long shifts at a job you don't like? I am doing exactly that right now, and these are the things that have helped me:

1. Living healthfully, of course. You'll want to be in the best shape mentally and physically.

2. Presence. So much of the time that I'm wanting to leave my job, it isn't because it's hard, but because I'd rather be somewhere else. But if I live just for the moment, then it isn't so bad. In fact, the present moment is almost never bad, no matter what is happening or has happened. Why do we dread the future? It is not because of the bad things in the future, but the good things in the future. We are dissatisfied with the present and are afraid that something will sabotage the joy we have stored up in the imaginary 'tomorrow'. If we would simply move our joy back to the present, then it wouldn't matter if tomorrow is going to suck, because Right Now does not suck.

I can't give you any practical advice on how to do this, because I haven't entirely learned it myself.

Actually, no. We just happen to both be on at the same time.

And I'm sure you can guess how much work I'm procrastinating by spending the morning on here.

Unfortunately, the only thing I do for long hours is sit at my computer, bored.

I'm 19 years old, and I don't own my own form of transport (besides a bus pass).

However, I have read more and more of Steve's blog on Self-discipline, and I'm starting to work it out in my own way.

At the moment, I've made a plan for cleaning my room, little by little, every day for the next week plus this Saturday.

I've put it in my calendar on Gmail, so it will notify me when it's time.

Your support in this first step would be much appreciated. If you have the time and energy, just a little bit of intent for me would be very nice.

Thanks again for the advice, and I do agree with you, The David.

I might be the extreme of your advice, however, since I mainly live for the moment, and without care for the future :P.

~ David

Ah, but that's different than living in the moment.

I agree.

I never said my extremity was positive.

Balance is my goal.

Yes.. always take one step at a time! Once you start doing one thing, it will have a positive effect and leads to another thing.

And remember to celebrate when you reach your goal at the end of the week! That will motivate you to set more goals! Reward yourself!

Cheers!
