Hi! I've searched the forum and it seems that there's no thread about July challenge yet, so I'll start it. I swore in May I'll never do challenges anymore, but here I am again! But long story short, here are my goals for July: 1) Wake up at 8.30 every morning. 2) Talk back to people at least once a day. This may seem unusual, but I decided to become like the majority in this city (my native city!) and on this planet just to put arrogant and rude people in their place. I've never been a fan of defensive behaviour because it's a weakness and it's not noble. But when I noticed that even my Mom started bullying me every day, I said - enough! So, my task is to be rude and to talk back at least once a day with strangers, acquaintances, relatives, on message boards, etc. If there's no quarrelsome situation during the day (which is unlikely), I have to create it. As usual, I'll post the results in the beginning of the next month. Good luck to everyone! |

Like last month, I'll have the added challenge of being out of town for ~10 days. 1 - Spend 4-6 hours per week working in the yard. (I'll make up for days out of town on the weeks that I'm home.) 2 - Write daily: Do the Morning Pages. 3 - Get up between 4am and 5am when I'm not out of town. 4 - Play horn daily. 5 - Meditate daily. 6 - Daily exercise - hiking, yard work, kayaking, walking, running, rock climbing, horse riding, etc. |

So I hope this shows you another perspective to your situations and perhaps help you solve the problems in another way. To prevent derailing this thread in any way I'd suggest that you start a new one if you need more information. Edit; Quote:

It has been a while since I posted and completed a thirty day / monthly challenge. Since finding this site I have made some real positive changes in my life - even I'm surprised at my dedication, but I'm loving the changes I see in myself. For the month of July the challenge I will complete is: 1. I will workout at least 30 minutes per day - (mon thru sat) 2. I will bring my lunch to work - (mon thru thurs) 3. I will wake up before 6:30am - (mon thru fri) " just to put arrogant and rude people in their place" I don't think arrogant and rude people are interested in how you treat them as they're usually a bit self centered. Perhaps the next time someone is rude to you or you feel they're being rude to you, just ask them in a calm voice "why are you being rude to me"? The majority of time people don't realize they're being rude but your comment brings it to their attention and also lets them know you will not tolerate being spoken to in a rude tone, etc. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and common courtesy. |

Here we go again :-) This monthly challenge has helped me accomplish ALOT compared to months without deciding what I want. My new list (might be updated with new goals): 1. I will not smoke this month (I almost succeeded in June) //FAILURE// 2. I will read another 4 books //FAILURE// 3. I will finish my snowmobile project (didn't touch it in June) //FAILURE// 4. I will make my financial situation much better //PARTIAL SUCCESS// 5. I will search for an apartment, and if possible, get it. //REMOVED GOAL// 6. I will become an early riser (that means at least ½ hour before work for a start) //PARTIAL SUCCESS// 7. I will maintain the good habits I made in June. //PARTIAL SUCCESS// 8. I will renew my wardrobe a bit (didnt have the money for it in June) //SUCCESS// 9. I will lose some weight. I aim for BELOW 92 kgs (BMI/bodyfat calcs). Preferably less //FAILURE// Thats it for now, I will edit this post with updates/progress. -Jan

Coming to Russia can be a shock to a westerner. And one of the reason is how mean and rude people on streets can be. It is a sort of a defense mechanism. They do not mean real harm most of the time. They just protect their personal space, like Julia wants to do as part of her trial. Still it is unpleasant.

Everyday is usually different. One of my favs is chicken ceasar salad so I usually have that once a week but I prefer a variety over the same thing. In order to save time in the morning I usually cook 1-2 chicken breasts and a steak in the evening and prepare three of four lunches in one night. Each day I grab a container and I don't have to worry about what I'm going to make for lunch because everything is already done. My problem is I tend to forgot I've made them and leave the house without lunch and end up buying it - not making the healthiest choices for me.

Hey all, (I mentioned this once in passing in another thread, but it's probably a lot more relevant to this thread.) You might find my site helpful for tracking your 30 day challenges. Indeed, it was inspired by Steve's article on 30-Day Challenges. 30 sleeps 30zzz is social networking for dreamchasers. It's a place for movitation, inspiration, and sharing your goals with each other. You can add and discuss goals, track friends, etc. I released it on July 1, so it's developing at a rapid pace. I'm currently working on a slick daily todo list feature, which I hope to debut over the next few days. But it's also my full-time venture (and, indeed, grew out of my own 30-day challenge to jump into entrepreneurship), I'm rolling out a new release at least once a day, and I'd be supremely grateful to hear all your input to help grow 30zzz into a mind-blowing experience for people who are having a hard time converting thought into action. Feel free to contact me directly at bradb at 30sleeps.com if you have questions or feedback. Enjoy! Last edited by bradb; 07-05-2007 at 03:08 AM. |

If you want to be sure to accomplish something AND feel good about it, make smaller goals for the first month. Perhaps 10 goals or so. Do-able goals (for instance loosing a couple of pounds, quit smoking, etc etc). That will boost your confidence for next months challenges. Personal development can be a long journey, I'm not sure if you can accomplish that big goals in one month only (but possible). I accomplished 50% of my goals last month, some of them very small (read some books etc), but it made me feel great and made my confidence grow. Small steps :-) -Jan EDIT: I'm sorry Aabukar, I just noticed that you have preserved this month for PD goals. I might have read your post a little too quickly. But I hope that this might help other people too, so I'm leaving it here.

I've made the thread a sticky, so you will find your actual challenge on the top.

All of you must be talented, determined, and geniuses for making such long lists. I only have 1 goal for 30 days: be a lacto-ovo vegetarian for at least 2 meals of the day. I'm on Day 4, and I don't really feel deprived . . . missing meat is not a big deal for me so far.

I just completed my first 30 day challenge. I hadn't found this thread before I started so unfortunately it didnt line up nicely with the beginning and end of the month but I wanted to post about it anyway. My goal was to be able to do a planche push up in 30 days, which I managed to do! This is my first 30 day challenge and it wasn't easy but completing it has gotten me all fired up to start a new one, but I'm thinking maybe I should wait until the end of the month so I can sync up with the next thread. Anyway you can read more about my experience and what I learned here: Exercise Challenge - Conclusion at Scrowed

Thanks for the link to your site. That link to John Stone Fitness site is amazing. I'm amazed at what he has done. I've spent the last 65 minutes reading from his site. Thanks for including that link on your site. Last edited by seeker5; 07-20-2007 at 04:59 PM.

| I know! That guy is unbelievable. It really makes you think about all the different things you could accomplish if you applied yourself like he has. It's kind of humbling too, you think you're doing pretty good, making the most of life and then you go and look at him and what hes done and you see what making the most of life really looks like.

... is one thing, and can be a good thing, especially if you find yourself in a self-defense situation. However, creating conflictual situations just for the sake of being rude, won't work, or at least be aware that immitating a monkey easily turns someone in time, into a monkey.
