| I felt more relaxed and my optimism increased a good bit. My thoughts became clearer on what I want to do. I loved the improvements. In addition, for the last seven days I have been on a "no-internet news" and I've noticed a significant jump up in my inner peacefullness and energy level. I have a lot less non-esssential, disempowering stuff circling in my head and am better able to focus on what I want. |

If you want to stop watching TV news or TV in general, fine. Do it. I went on several TV fasts in the past couple of years, but certain shows seem to suck me back in. The reason is that I do get value from some of the shows I watch. If you demonize all of television, every corner of it, you lose some valuable experiences. We watch television to be entertained. And if, at some certain moment, your best entertainment option is the television, go for it. Just don't become obsessed with it. Anything in moderation is fine. One thing to suggest: Get a DVR and tape only the shows you know are worth watching, and then watch them on the most appropriate time. Do not let the scheduling of your favorite TV show break into your other valuable time.

Yeah, the screw-over part is unfortunate and it does happen, however I do benefit from that by being put on guard to what people may do to me in real life, and then seeing how to counter-act it. There are sometimes some very honorable cast members who successfully win over the dishonorable cast members, and it's interesting to see how they do it. I've been inspired by some of those people. | |

I haven't watched much tv at all this year, I feel as good as ever. Something to think about is that you may not really *need* to watch the news everyday. Maybe once a week, once a month to catch up on things? But who says you have to do it everyday? Who says there's something newsworthy happening everyday? It's laughable. TV execs probably think you need to watch everyday, but who cares what they think. If you replaced a half hour of news daily, with a half hour a month (recap), you'd save yourself, 29 days x 30 minutes....you'd save yourself 14.5 hours a month! People need to relax, a little tv isn't harmful. But it can become harmful, day after day after day. If you're watching something you could care less about, and you could be spending that time on something much more productive. Instead of tv, I like browsing ebay, listening to audio courses (marketing guru Jay Abraham, I'm a big fan of his), collecting toys/sports cards I had as a kid and lots of other things. Or just relaxing on my deck, looking at the stars and city life. |

Thanks to everyone who's giving suggestions and validations in this thread on avoiding reading the internet news. As I wrote in a new thread (http://www.stevepavlina.com/forums/p...t-trials.html), I've just completed avoiding all general internet news (in addition to not watching TV)! The effects have been awesome, and I'm blown by it. I went back and read this whole thread. It's interesting to read the thread on the other side of the 30 day habit trial of not watching internet news |
