Default The Power of Belief…

The power of belief or how to turn the impossible into the possible…

Many of us will fail to live the life that we want to live because of our limiting beliefs…

It is said that, “certainty is the winner’s edge…” So, in order to illustrate that truism, I would like to share that excerpt from “Awaken the Giant Within” by Tony Robbins with you… hoping that it could inspire and motivate…

Quote:
"Do you know the story of the four-minute mile?

For thousands of years, people held the belief that it was impossible for a human being to run the mile in less than four minutes. But in 1954 Roger Bannister broke this imposing belief barrier.

He got himself to achieve the “impossible” not merely by physical practice but by constantly rehearsing the event in his mind, breaking through the four-minute barrier so many times with so much emotional intensity that he created vivid references that became an unquestioned command to his nervous system to produce the result. Many people don’t realize, though, that the greatest aspect of his breakthrough was what it did for others.

In the whole history of the human race, no one had ever been able to break the four-minute mile, yet within one year of Roger’s breaking the barrier, 37 other runners also broke it.

His experience provided them with references strong enough to create a sense of certainty that they, too, could “do the impossible.” And the year after that, 300 other runners did the same thing!"

I happen to love that movie, where Bannister breaks the 4-minute barrier. It just goes to show how beliefs can either limit us, or propel us forward. It also makes me wonder something, are the only limits to the human mind the ones we impose on it? It's great feats such as this that make me want to push the limits on what I belief to achieve "the impossible"

Some fifty years ago, whenever someone could swim across the English Channel (21 miles) the news was reported world wide... a few years ago, someone came within 3 miles of crossing from Cuba to Florida.... some 90 miles...

As we expand our minds we open up the possibilities of achieving greater and greater objectives and goals... but, first, we must believe that it is possible..

Belief is one of the key components to success - in any endeavor.

I would even go so far as to say that one of the reasons why today's society has so many "issues" is because the same rules that govern civilized society also tend to make people believe that they are only capable of certain things given certain circumstances.

The common belief that going to college is a natural extension of the educational process is a good demonstration of this. These days you have people who didn't even finish high school who are more successful than people who are in their 30's and 40's and still paying off student loans.

Anything is possible -as long as the belief is there!
