Default Fear of Success

We are surrounded by average. Average people, average jobs, average money, what would happen if you actually succeeded? Holy Monkey!! That may be much worse that failure! You might say 'I can handle failure, I can handle average, I know exactly what they look like'

Because we are surrounded by average and failure (the real world that is thrust upon us mainly through the media) success seems to be for those select few (famous, rich, on TV) so we end up in this comfort zone of average ordinariness dreaming of one day making it.

Of course there is some much wonderful success around us, there are successful people with successful businesses and relationships, wonderful families and friends, but there is always that underlying perception that being very successful may change everything for you to the point where it's a fear.

The change of making the million dollars, of having the mansion, of experiencing the wonderful realitonship, the perception of having everything you ever wanted may be too much to handle, we might go crazy! So we become more afraid of success than of failure. We're actually afraid of what will happen when we succeed, it may be so different it scares us more than staying where we are. Staying where we are is comfortable, even if you're suffering, it's familar and you don't have to get out of your comfort zone.

What's really stopping you from succeeding? The fear of failure or the fear of success.

Interesting post. I was thinking about that recently. We know what average looks like and we're surrounded by it (homer simpson, family guy's peter griffin, etc) and we sorta know what "Successful" looks like, but that's not very appealing either. I think having role models or people you know of to build a solid conception of success is like in your mind would be wonderful.

For example, finding someone who has the same life goals as I do, but is ahead of me by a few years, would be great, so I can more easily see the path and less of the uncertainty is taken away. I want a mentor, methinx.

I agree, if someone is afraid of succeeding, they won't. Possibly, they have thought about the large responsibility that rests upon people they consider successful, and they do not fully want to accept the responsibility that comes with success. On the contrary, if someone already wants the power and responsibility they most likely already have some portion of it, and will inevitably have more as their life progresses.

The important thing to focus on is why someone would want to have the power and responsibility that comes with the way they perceive success. If someone already knows that they want something to happen, to make an impact on life, or create world change; they will ensure that they have all the means, power, and responsibility to carry out their goal. Also, whether it be by fear or love, they will be motivated to the degree that their energies and desires are polarized.

Clearly someone who already knows what they want is polarized, and therefore their means of success are delivered to them, along with the accompanying power and responsibilities that they had desired from the beginning. It also seams clear that people living in fear of their success, don't know if they really want what they think they want, and therefore are afraid of true success, even if they fantasize about what it would be like minus the responsibility of success resting upon them. People who already accept responsibility don't feel this burden of fear, because when they receive power and responsibility, they automatically channel it in the direction they have already reprogrammed. It seems clear that people wondering what to do with power and responsibility are wondering who they are and what they're about.

The truth is, that if someone has to potential to be great, they already have the success, power, and responsibility that comes with it.

If you can drop all the expectation and just perform as if it's a process without the high/low emotion of outcome, it keeps it simple, like performing a simple task, you don't need to get to energised to get it done, you just do it and bingo it's done. Achieving greatness has a huge amount of expectation to it, but it's still just a process that has to be completed.

Some of the most successful people in the world seem very emotionless, but they leave emotion to after it's achieved, for they know it just clouds choice, creativity and creation.
