| John Travolta says no to psychiatric medication - CNN.com "Travolta, who also talks of his habit of going to bed at 6 or 7 in the morning and waking in the early afternoon, says being famous has little impact on how he lives his life. "I will tell you the things that would be the same, fame or no fame," he says. "Being up all night would be the same. Liking empty restaurants, liking empty movie theaters -- unless I am starring in it."" SEE? You don't have to be an early-riser to be successful. I actually know a self-made multi-millionaire from Europe who stays out late every night and doesn't get into work until noon. Down with the tyranny of the early risers! Viva la night owls! |

| If you're taking names for the "Viva la night owls Club" count me in.... I firmly believe that only slaves, soldiers and monks wake up early in the morning... . |

| I'm of the camp that regularly gets up at 6 AM and goes to bed at 10 PM. The advantage to being an early riser is that the rest of the Western world values early starts. |

| Count me in with the night owls!

| It also values a lot of other things that I won't even begin to get into right now. |

| You know, sometimes the work I do prevents me from getting to sleep 'til 6 AM. So, I understand if being an early riser just isn't in the cards for some people. But when I get up at 4:30, I beat the sun (in my part of the world) by an hour. I don't know many people who get up before sunrise, and I only know a few who get up with sunrise, so that puts me ahead of the game most of the time. It's like getting a head start on the rat race, and finishing when some people are just sitting down to eat their steak and potatoes or whatever. My neighbor gets into his car everyday at 8:50 to go to work, and when I hear his engine start, all I can think is 'wow, the workday is almost half over!' I guess in the end, it doesn't make a difference when you get up, but you guys should try it. It's so peaceful. |

| When I'm working on a project I want to stay up until 6 working on it. Take a quick nap, then back to it until I get it done. Just how I roll! :-D

| Jes, I know what you mean. I'm a night owl. If I don't properly practice my yoga before bed, my mind is spiraling in all types of zany directions for hours before I can get it simmered down. I do, however, notice a special tranquility with waking up early (4:30 to 5ish). I suppose there is a reason why dawn is known as the holy hours. Creatively, I peek at midnight and in the wee hours of the morning. Observing a sunrise is a delicious pleasure that I try to capture more of. |

| Add me on the night owl list too. Working at nights is real fun the peace and cocentration you can provide to your work is the plus point. |

| Night owls HA you are nothing compared to us early risers. We get up early, We beat you early, And we even beat the sun ! So yeah piss off. [constructive part] I get up every morning at 5 am. I am actually like half as productive if I wake up much later. Every hour that takes away from the morning is a hour being less productive lol, after 8pm I can't get any work done somehow. Besides having done excersizes/morning stuff before the rest of the family wakes up is a pretty good feeling lol. I even managed to get my parents to wake up at 6 am now, I make a great example haha. I will still need to try to become the ultimate early riser and turn myself into a polyphasic sleeper, future project hehe.

| I used to be one of those that went to bed at 3-5am, and got in to work around 11am - 1pm. Then I changed jobs... where I am now, I have changed that habit. At 7-9, I have an hour and a half drive to work, and an hour and a half getting back, plus I have one heck of a time finding parking. If, however, i get in at 5, it's 35 minutes to work, 45 minutes back, and zero problem finding a parking space close to the door. (generally about two cars from the door) Also, being home at 2ish leaves me with plenty of time to get stuff done around the house while stores are still open. Ever go in and work a half day, or go to lunch and decide not go back to work in the afternoon, and have all afternoon to putz around the house, or go naked tanning, or ... ?? I do that every single day. (although it would be much better if I didn't have to actually GO to work... and yes, I am working on that) |

| Haha.. what a funny thread... NIGHT OWLS V EARLY RISERS! I am a converted early riser. Tell me 3 years ago that I would be waking at 5am and I would have laughed in your face. These days I happily wake at that time. I think it is just about consciously making a decision about what is best for you. In regards to my blogging, I am most creative and write most of my articles in the morning. Once every fortnight, however, I have one of those nights where I get into the zone and write till 1am.

| I'm in the camp that believes it's easier to get work done in the night as there's less distractions. But while I don't go to bed at 6 or 7am, I do probably hit the bunk nightly at 2 or 3am. Now if only I could shake this 9am job...

| I tried becoming an early riser, but it just didn't work. The night owl in me would always awaken at 10-11 pm and I was never able to get to bed early enough. It also doesn't help that I'm in my early 20's and share and apartment with 2 other guys my age who keep pretty late schedules. In the end I think it's all personal preference. I may convert to early riser as I get older, but at this point using the night as a time to be productive is working well.
