It doesn't sound like an addiction to gaming so much as a method of procrastination (though I could be wrong of course). Do you think this is it? Do you feel as though you can't take yourself away from gaming for very long (addiction), or is it just that you suddenly put off work to game for "a few minutes"(procrastination)? If its indeed procrastination, have you read Steve's article on the subject? http://www.stevepavlina.com/articles...astination.htm |

I'm unsure of what sort of work you need to do, but if possible, can you go somewhere else to work- where there are no computers? Alternatively, can you get rid of your computer for a while? Maybe if you establish new habits your desire to play games will be diminished. I used to commit a ton of time to gaming. I quit playing when the fall semester started and once the social ties were severed (I played a MMORPG, ran a guild, the whole 9 yards) and I had established new habits, the desire to play was greatly diminished. Now I have all the time in the world to play if I want to, but the desire is gone, I'd rather read a good book. Sometimes doing something different for a while makes a long term change easy. |

Should it be so, the solution would be to eliminate the cause (boredom and frustration) by making some major changes in your life... If you are frustrated over something... try to find a solution where you can eliminate it... and, if it is boredom... find something to challenge you... I wish you the very best in solving your dilemma... . | |

If you game instead of doing what pushes you forward, maybe you should reexamine your goals? You could rewrite your goals. Refine them and add strong emotions to them. Asking these questions could help you: * Why do I have this goal? * What am I willing to do to accomplish it? * Why is this goal so much more important than doing other things? * What will happen if I follow through? What will happen if I don't? |

take out some hardware so the game wont work on your machine but you can still work. maybe buy an old computer that wont run the games and put it in another part of the house and work from there. I believe your mind gets used to doing things in certain places and associates them with that place. |
