| Most of us have heard of the “GiGo” principle… which goes like this… “Good stuff in… Good stuff out… but Garbage In… Garbage out…” Which means that if we only allow good and positive material to enter our brain… we will only express good and positive material… however if we let the garbage in… that is also what we will express and manifest… So, what need to be done is to install a “Firewall” in our brain like the one that we have on our computer to filter what we let in… that way, when the negative tries to reach us, we can visualize that Firewall doing its job and filtering out the negativity… Does it work all the time… no… but it helps… That being said, I was wondering what was your method of guarding yourself against negative material and info… . |

| I don't watch the news...particularly local, it's so sensationalized and really gets me depressed. I don't listen to negative people. I read as much positive, life affirming stuff as I can to increase my knowledge and help me feel 'up'. I try to keep fun and humorous people around me at all times. That's why I'm on this thread right now.

| I cherry pick my news off the internet, instead of watching it on TV, so I don't have to sit through the junk to hear the good stuff. I don't necessarily filter out negativity, though. It's unrealistic to deny that bad things happen in this world. If we simply choose to ignore it, it doesn't go away. To effectively deal with negativity, you have to have the right perspective. When I hear a negative story, I use it as a chance to reflect on what might have caused such a thing to happen so that if I was ever presented with a similar scenario where I could make a difference, I would have some knowledge, even if it's just anecdotal, to base my decisions and actions on. As far as the true junk, I definitely just filter that right out. I couldn't care less, for instance, what name Cameron Diaz chose for her kid or who Angelina Jolie is adopting next.

| I agree, Matthew Shea. I will sometimes look at news websites to get my world news. For instance, I don't try to pretend that there's no war in Iraq or violence in Darfur. On the contrary, I want to be globally aware and find whatever ways I can to make the world a better place. I tend not to watch the local news to hear about all the shootings in my city. I also tend to avoid reality shows that are about conflict and infighting...I've noticed when I view a lot of these things I begin to treat people with suspicion and am more confrontational. Perhaps I just need a little more maturity/emotional mastery to be able to stop these things from affecting me in such a way?

| Thanks, Ree. I know they are built to create drama so people will watch, but I find myself looking at everyone as if they are like these people. Really they are unusually outrageous personalities chosen for the drama putting them in a house or on an island together will create. It's not worth watching for the downer it puts in my spirit.

| One thing that I'm very careful about in order to avoid negative vibes is to avoid discussing any of my projects/goals/objectives with negative people... Some people just brighten the room when they leave... so, I do everything in my power to avoid those "realistic" people... (A realistic person is one who knows all the reasons why something will not work... but does not know anything about how it could work.) . |

As an example... if you try an article of clothing and one person says that it does not fit you... you will have to have at least seventeen people tell you differently before you dismiss that negative suggestion... Negativity is like a virus... once is has gotten inside of you... it is very hard to get rid of it... that is why it is so important not to expose ourselves... . |
