Positive affirmations have been fairly effective in helping me overcome my low self-esteem. But I was wondering how exactly do they work? I know that a lot of people do not believe in positive affirmations because they believe just saying a word a couple times a day cannot make a difference. I argue that it does because if we were to say " I am so stupid" over and over again, then we would eventually believe this. Am I on the right track? Do any of you have positive affirmations? Do they work for you and what is your theory on why they do? Thanks!

Yes they do work! Along with visualization , affirmations are excellent personal development tools. Have a look at the articles and see tips on how they work and how to use them.

Before our conscious take any decision… it goes back to our bank of references (memories) and decides what this particular situation or notion means to us… Now every time we repeat an affirmation… it goes into that bank of references and reinforces it… so, when the conscious goes back to check that particular reference it gets what we have put into it… As an example… if you repeat, over a course of time, “I am a successful and confident person” the only reference that the conscious will have is the fact that… you are a successful and confident person… and thus… you will act and react accordingly… Now… repeat after me… “I am a confident and successful person… . |

Do you still practice chiropractic? If not, dispensing advice must be your second career.

Yea, your subconscious mind is very powerful, and by doing your daily affirmations you are influencing your subconscious.

I'm a Maxwell Maltz fan too. He wrote his stuff decades ago and it's as relevant now as it was then.

Thank you guys for all the great posts! Your posts definitely made it more clear and concise on how positive affirmations work. I will pass this along to anyone who questions me about PA's!
