I spent 74 dollars on a mic and mic stand, speakers, got a new computer. and I gave up on rapping in about 2 days. that's a world record for goals i have set. I am always constantly changing my mind on what i want to be. i'm 16 and im running out of time, the only talent i have is making people laugh, a lot of people say i should be an actor or a comedian so im gonna look into that very soon. or now.

I believe Stephen Covey in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People said "The way we see a problem is the problem." (something like that). I'm 29 years old, I've not been to college, I've no car, no job, never had a serious mutual relationship. You got time Scott. Make it your ally rather than your enemy. Breathe.

And you aren't running out of time. You're REALLY young and still developing. Understand that you have a ton of time to figure out what you want. It's around our late teens and early adulthood that we start exploring what we want. So it's great that you want to try out something!

Everything you start, will suck at first. So if you give up because you suck you will never achieve anything. People in this forum often say that it takes 10000 (yes, ten thousand) hours of practice to get really good at something. Instead of looking for something you don't suck at, look for something that is fun to do. Doing what you love will make you motivated to learn. And no, time is not running out (I know how you feel though - I felt the same when I was your age). |

It's good to be able to give things up when you know it's not worth it. But in your case you give up too easily. What you would really benefit from is a 30-day trial of anything you'd like to try. Of course, building a music career in 30 days isn't realistic. Therefore, create smaller goals. For example, "Create 10 songs that I'm really satisfied with." Btw, you don't have to love something to be good at it. As long as you don't get drained by doing it, you should be able to do something well. I don't enjoy arithmetic, but I'm good at it. People tell me I can really count. Speaking of 10,000 hours, there's a guy who is trying out that theory: The Dan Plan. The better way of solving this problem is to ask the people here about ways to use your talent to make money, instead of proclaiming that you are giving up. |

You gave up way too quickly and way too young. The next five to ten years are going to pass anyway. By the time they're over, you could be truly great at something, or you could find yourself 26 years old (and later: 36, 46 and 56) and not particularly good at anything because you never tried. Get back in there and learn to laugh at yourself during the "suck" phase. Despite their lyrical claims to the contrary, no rapper popped out their mama dropping dope rhymes (that's right, folks: lamest thing I've ever typed in my life, and you were there!). You gotta listen, read, write constantly, and stick with it. |

According to Judge Greg Mathis, it's easier to get into the MBA without having bounced a single basketball than it is to get a hit record. Also, astronomical odds of succeeding as an actor or comedian. Why did you drop out of high school? You can still make it. You can get your GED and then go to college. You could go to a community college for 2 years and then transfer to a state school. Realistically, what are you interested in doing? |
