hi everyone, how's it going? This is my first post here as I've only join today so thought I would start straight away with asking for your help. I'm nearly 32 and I'm pretty unhappy with the way my life is going at the moment. Let's just say I'm feeling very low with my situation, and I know I have to take full responsibility for everything right now and start making the change. I've listened to a lot of personal development programs, and whereas I have taken a lot from them, I'm still failing to follow through even on the most simplest of tasks. I have a massive action plan, which is very finely detailed and doesn't really require much from me – just the need to go and do it! I really need some people to hold me accountable because I'm struggling on my own. Obviously it would be great if I could condition myself to expect more and do more automatically, but having failed in this approach I obviously need to change my strategy. I sometimes think that maybe I'm trying to do too much, but when I'm motivated I can complete all of my tasks with ease and with plenty of time to spare. I personally think this is due to my belief systems and just generally being lazy; I actually think I'm either afraid to succeed, or believe that I will fail anyway so why bother. anyway, without further adieu let's get down to business. Here are the main things I would like to do everyday and intend to do over the coming months. Read 25 pages of a book of my choice (selected from a reading list) spend 30 min to an hour learning French spend 30 min to an hour working out (the hour of power) every other day revising one module for my driving theory test (until passed) between the hours of 9 AM until darkness either be working or if there is no work canvassing new business (this is only relevant if it's not raining) if it's raining or the weather is poor I should be working on my website business) in the evening writing three articles for my website (if I've been working during the day at my other business) now to be honest I know I can do all of this every day; I have done it many times but I fail to be consistent. This is the purpose of this thread; to hold myself accountable for completing the tasks everyday and documenting the changes and benefits in my life, hence gaining momentum and having some social pressure. The reason I have come here is because my peer group are not very inspiring or motivating and I am definitely outgrowing them, some whom I have been friends with all my life. It's sad, but they do need to be replaced or kept at a distance for a while whilst I make these changes. I understand that the only thing that keeps me from achieving what I want are the stories (rationalizations) as to why I can't do it, or have it. One of my main goals is to be conscious of rationalizing, nipping in the bud and replacing them with something more empowering, then getting in state to go out there and give it my all. I hope to update this very often, with progress reports and obviously seeing if using this forum will actually help me attain my goals. Please feel free to offer me your comments or support it would be much appreciated. All the best SuperFunk |

There are many personal development plans that only serve to make their creators rich. Very general, obvious advice sold as "secrets of happiness". The self-help industry is notorious for spouting BS to gullible people. That was just a diversion, sorry. Will fulfilling your goals really increase your happiness to a satisfactory level? Do you REALLY want to do them or do you only THINK you SHOULD because it means something in your social stratum? If not, reconsider some of them. Maybe focus on social life or finances. If you are serious about this commitment I'll be happy to provide encouragement in the form of posts from time to time. But remember - don't take too much at first. Anything perceived as failure is demotivating, be it significant or not. If you don't make enough commitments for your goals or available time you can always take up more as your comfort zone expands. |
