It's called the Art of Learning. I read it twice and keep reading parts of it over and over. It's like my bible. Something just rang true for me in those pages... Josh Waitzkin was much like me in many ways - intuitive, passionate, stubborn, competitive. In his book he talks about the parallels in excelling in any discipline. I first heard about this book from my aunt who mentioned how Josh had become national chess champion 8 years in a row, and then switched over to Tai Chi, and became World Tai Chi Champion for his weight class in 2 different forms. If you want to learn how to be the very best - and I mean the best of the best - read this book, and let it guide you. |

That's definitely interesting, and your claim about becoming the best of the best is really a big challenge. Also, I'd like to ask you, do you think that being the very "best" will make you any happier? Personally, I would not want to be the best in something but not having a fulfilling life in all the other areas. I'll check it out! |

Being the best won't make you happy... but the real challenge is to not let it make you unhappy - to be able to be perfectly content, loving life, AND be the best. I mean why not Also the stuff covered in that book with address most of your concerns about having a fulfilling life while trying to be the best. |

Yes, I feel like I've gained enormous amounts of insight into the study of consciousness and the best way to learn. I've always been... somewhat intuitive, so I really felt like I could relate to the guy. I hope you get to read it!

Hey Nistacular, Thanks for the suggestion. I can't put this book down even though I don't play chess or practice Tai-Chi for the matter. I'm spell bound that somebody could bring this level of consciousness even at an early age and see parallels and common denominators...After reading his chess conquests, I for a moment thought about starting to play chess using his method....Highly recommend it!! |

Thanks for recommending this book! I love it. Not only is it good, he's renewing my love of chess, and giving me an entirely new perspective of the game. I love the way he talks about the game; you can tell he loves the game. His love of the game is contagious. I'm going to go play chess. |
