Default My 2012 Goals

I would like to start working on my 2012 goals early because I really want it to be my BREAKTHROUGH year.

Currently I'm overweight, a smoker, unemployed and not exercising.

So my goals are:

1) Lose 60 lbs by June 2012
2) Be smoke-free
3) Have the habit of exercising every day
4) Have an income of at least $5,000/month

This is going to be a real challenge . That's why I'm committed to reporting my progress here. I want to be able to report the thought processes, the setbacks, the turning points and the successes.

I want to do this for personal and professional reasons. I'm starting a new career as a Life Coach (specializing on self-esteem issues) and I since I would like to be a model for my clients, I want to understand and experience what it takes to have a breakthrough and live with integrity. I'm tired of setting goals and not supporting myself in achieving them.

2011 was a "preparation" year. I got rid of a job that I didn't like and got trained in a profession that fits me better and will allow me to contribute to other people's lives.

I hope that others will join me in this journey and that the more advanced souls will share their wisdom and experience.

They are some great goals, I really do wish you success in achieving them.

what processes do you have in place at the moment that give you the thought that they are the best goals for you at the moment. Just interested in this because I am about to start on my evaluation of 2011 and goal setting for 2012.

I have them written down in my journal, and every night I write down what I have done that day to progress toward them. Are there other processes that you are aware of? Good luck on yours!

Yesterday I started a detox and ate very light. I'm preparing my body for the diet changes I'm going to make. My first step in the weight loss process is to cut the carbs and watch my calorie intake. I still have to find out how much I wqeigh, I don't have a scale at home.

I didn't go walking this morning. I will do it tonight so I can report that I did it.

I'm counting the cigarettes that I'm smoking. My goal is to smoke less than 10 cigarettes a day. Next week, less than 5.

Last week I had an appointment with a counselor at the Small Business Administration to discuss my idea for a business. He asked me to draw a business plan. I also sent my resume to 25 people at organizations I may want to work with. I think I would rather have my own business, but I still have some fear around that idea. Can I pull it off? Anyway, I'm doing what the counselor told me and remain opened to where that may lead me.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm sure that can be very helpful. Where do I find them?

I did go walking for one hour. I was procrastinating at first, but I did it knowing that I would have to report it here.

Good luck with everything!

I've heard that many people are getting good results with Tim Ferris' diet he explained in "4-hour body", it might be interesting read for you..

Really great goals you have! I wish you all the best in achieving them.

I just have a few suggestions/recommendations for you:

1) State your goals in a way that will help promote them naturally coming into your life.

Quote:
Originally Posted by Maya2066 View Post

2) Be smoke-free
The thing about the Law of Attraction is that "what you think about, you attract." Therefore, if you're thinking you want to lose 60 lbs, you're thinking of that extra weight and you'll only keep attracting it into your life. Think of the body or weight you'd like to have, and state that in the present tense.

The same idea goes with "smoke-free." When you say this, subconsciously, you think of "smoke" and that will only be a burden on your progress. So I recommend you try to find a way to word this better.

Also, replace this bad habit with a good positive habit. If you don't, naturally, another bad habit will fill the space.

2) Attach Completion Dates To All Of Your Goals

Make sure your goals follow the "S.M.A.R.T." formula for goal setting where:
  • S stands for specific
  • M stands for measurable
  • A stands for appropriate
  • R stands for realistic
  • T stands for time-bound

Work towards achieving goals by the date you set, but if it ends up not happening, change the plan or the date you hope to achieve it by. DO NOT CHANGE THE GOAL!

3) Start Today

Don't wait for 2012 to come around. I know that the turn of a year makes you that much more motivated to move forward, but with any goal, what we're really working for is permanent long-term change; not short-term gains. List out the action steps you'd need to take for each goal to achieve them by the dates you want, and then start making the necessary changes today!

Also, make sure you list off all of the habits you could develop and actions you could take to help promote "releasing" weight. Exercise is not the only way. So list out everything you could to to help promote you making permanent change in your life.

4. Other Stuff

To help you stay on-track, a while back I created a "Weekly Action Planner" PDF that will help you create an action plan for the week that you can create and stick to to help you be successful. You can download/view it here:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/Free-Traini...on-Planner.pdf

Also, I've created a comprehensive 9-Page "Create Your Goals" guide. If you're interested in getting it, just sign-up at this page (it's 100% free):

"Create Your Goals" Mini-Course | Matthew Cluff | Dream. Achieve. Succeed

Hope this helps, and good luck in making 2012 an unforgettable year!

Thank you Matthew for the suggestions and the resources. They are very helpful .

I have re-stated my goals:
1) I'm 150 lbs by June 30th 2012.
I am 10 lbs lighter every month starting today. I exercise for 1 hour everyday and I watch my calories and carbs.

2) I'm free of cigarettes by January 1st 2012.
Each week starting today, I'm decreasing the amount of cigarettes I smoke to be less than 5 cigarettes by the end of November 2011.

3) I exercise every day for 1 hour

4) I am making at least $5,000 a month by June 30th 2012.
This month I'm developing a business plan and meeting with a Counselor at the SBA.

I decided to work on my 2012 goals now so I will have the momemtum by the time January 1st comes around. I will be in a better place to achieve my goals then.

Great goals Maya!

For the smoking, maybe you could read The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. I can send you the e-book. There's also Nicotine Anonymous. Also, there's the nicotine patch or losenge.

I'm glad you're looking for a job, because 95% of businesses fail within the first year. And it would take more than a year to generate that much money. Why do you want to be a "life coach"? Are you certified? What qualifies you? With that said, I wish you luck in finding something that pays 60K per year.

Keep in mind that quitting smoking and dieting are hard to do at the same time. When you stop smoking it makes you want to eat more. So maybe break it up into two phases.

Thanks for all the suggestions

I know it's difficult to stop smoking and lose weight at the same time but I don't have a choice. I'm doing it for health reasons. Maybe what I can do is start by stopping smoking and then a little later focus on cutting calories.

I am a Certified Life Coach as of last month. So my goal is to get clients both online and offline. I'm seeing it as developing my own business. I have to do something that I have control over. Just looking for jobs and waiting for someone to call me would not cut it.

Why do you feel that looking for jobs and waiting for a phone call means you don't have control?

Thank you! Yes, smoking is a powerful addiction. It's funny but I don't seem to be addicted. I can spend a day away from home (at the library for example) and I don't even think about smoking. It's really hard when I'm at home by myself which is quite often these days.

Great goals! Go for it!

If you look at Matthew's post, you should restate your goals for them to be more effective. For instance: I am building my business online by .... I am working harder to .... I quit my job by ....

I feel like waiting for calls is passive and make me feel desperate. That's why I need to do something that's more within my control like working on getting clients. Some of the jobs I'm applying for don't give any contact information except an e-mail and the only option I have is to send them my cv and wait.

Hi Maya,
Great goals by the way, it's good to see how motivated you are!

My one little suggestion that might help you a bit, is to write down 15 times a day, something like "I now have $5000 a month or more come to me in a joyous way." You can change that around if you want to make it feel better to you. Doing this, writting it down each day sounds easy, but you can't miss a day, and if you can keep it up for months, you'll see results come to you faster.

I've done this myself with all sorts of goals and notice things happening a little bit at a time, but it was difficult to do it everyday and NOT skip any days. I was a little surprized at how hard it was...lol. Anyway, seemingly impossible goals can come to you quicker, I hope you give it a shot.

Good luck with all your doing!

After about 2 weeks of writing a positive statement down, you''ll notice your logical mind will try to talk you out of doing it. Things like "oh this will never work", or "this is so silly why even bother writing this 15 times a day"... etc., will go through your mind and you'll notice your doubt increasing. At this point you have to really put your foot down and continue, its like your mind is going to test you now, to see if your resolve to draw more wealth to you is really as strong as you think it is. I've had this happen to me, and was a bit surprised at how hard it was to continue.

I only mention this since I would imagine it happens to most people that try out this little exercise, you really do have to have a lot of faith and trust in your what you're doing.

Anyway most of the LOA books out there talk about "intent', and how that's the thing that will really bring your goals to you, and writing a simple statement over and over each day, does help to build your intent and also focus it.

Default Changing Habits

I saw a post on another thread about changing habits. That's one of the most difficult thing to do. Right now the negative feedback are stronger than the positive ones. I find difficult to stay conscious most of the time and remember that I want to implement changes. For instance 2 days in a row I forgot to go walking and I forgot to count the number of cigarettes I'm smoking. I'm doing better with watching my diet and taking steps to bring in an income. Today I finished the first draft of the business plan that I'm submitting on Monday to my counsellor. I also apply for a job online.

I'm feeling a lot of resistance to going walking although I enjoy it when I go. I really can't understand this one.

Default Mixed results

I had mixed results this week.

I did finish the first draft of my business plan.

I did watch my diet, but I was not as strict as I wanted to be. Yesterday I had some cake and ice cream. The smoking is less overall but I still need to exercise more control.

I walked but did not do it for 1 hour as originally planned.

I'm seeing November as a warm up month to put me on track for January

Great goals Maya !

I know how hard it can be to make changes
so may I offer suggestions ?

1) getting support has always proven to be effective in any changes you are trying to make.
2) gathering all the right information in order to make the changes
and finally
3) repeating the new changes

all of these will lead to effective re-wiring of your brain

I don't think you should see November as a "warm up" month. That mentality will cause you to drag your feet until January, which will lead to disappointment.

See it as "the month I'm officially starting" so you can get a jump start on your goals.

Keep me posted!

You are right Cro. Actually that's what is happening, I'm procrastinating in certain areas. I'm officially starting after Thanksgiving.

Maya,

Have you gotten in touch with how you will feel once you have accomplished your goals?

How will you feel about yourself once you have quit smoking? (Trust me, there IS life after cigarettes!) What will you say about yourself when you're an ex-smoker? What will your friends and family think and say about not smelling stale cigarettes on your breath and on your clothing? I am an ex-smoker.

What will you look like when you get to your goal weight? Is what you're putting in your mouth moving you closer to or further from your goal? What will your little voice be saying to you when you've lost the weight? Will family and friends be giving you the once over look and go mmm, mmm, mmm, you look GOOD! I am at my goal weight and feel wonderful.

And, what will it feel like to be self-employed and earning $5k a month on your way to $10k? Can you sense the self-satisfaction of having moved yourself from unemployed to self-sustaining? It's OK to let your pride shine through. When you put your head on the pillow at the end of a busy day, close your eyes and think to yourself, they threw an economic down turn and I chose not to play. Good for me!! Can you feel the grin on your face as restful sleep overtakes you? I am earning $5k a month or more.

Get in touch with these feelings. Let them be your guide. Be passionate about your future and a demand for your success. Let nothing and no one stand in your way, even you!

In success,

RICK
