Hi gang, I'm really sick of looking for a 9-5 that I probably won't even enjoy. I feel like sending out cold resumes over the internet is getting me nowhere. I hate networking because it feels fake and slimy. I hate braving the cold and wasting money just to drop off my resume or go to a resume seminar. At this rate, I may never find anything. Meanwhile I love being in school. I love learning, reading, and writing. But I can't go back for my MSW until I pay the 4k I owe my school so they'll release my transcripts. So I'm stuck between a rock and hard place. Unless: I get my MSW from an online institution. They don't require official transcripts and they're eager to recruit. But it may not look good to employers and may be a waste of money. I plan to call employers tomorrow to ask them if they'd hire someone who got an MSW from an online university. But in the meantime, I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance |

What do you want to do with a MSW? Therapy? Social Work? These careers would benefit from a worker who has been trained to interact with others face to face. Depending on what you want to do with an MSW, you may want to consider if the online program will give you that experience. Specifically the MSW programs I know about all make you participate in supervised clinical experience. Networking skills will be needed if you want to be a social worker. Tell us a little more what you want to do with an MSW?

| Excellent, another one on the team! With all the online programs, there should be an accompanying practicum/internship that will be worked out in your area. And who knows? Maybe these programs are also willing to work something out with people who live a long distance away.

My only recommendation is that if you take courses online, make sure it is with an acreddited, not-for-profit institution (i.e. online courses provided by a genuine college or university with an actual real-world campus). The for-profit online diploma mills are a giant scam. |
