Default The Power of Believing that Something is Possible...

The power of believing that something is possible...

To illustrate... I would like to share this excerpt from Tony Robbins' book, "Awaken the Giant Within."

Quote:
"Do you know the story of the four-minute mile? For thousands of years, people held the belief that it was impossible for a human being to run the mile in less than four minutes.

But in 1954 Roger Bannister broke this imposing belief barrier. He got himself to achieve the “impossible” not merely by physical practice but by constantly rehearsing the event in his mind, breaking through the four-minute barrier so many times with so much emotional intensity that he created vivid references that became an unquestioned command to his nervous system to produce the result.

Many people don’t realize, though, that the greatest aspect of his breakthrough was what it did for others.

In the whole history of the human race, no one had ever been able to break the four-minute mile, yet within one year of Roger’s breaking the barrier, 37 other runners also broke it.

His experience provided them with references strong enough to create a sense of certainty that they, too, could “do the impossible.” And the year after that, 300 other runners did the same thing!"
Robbins tells us that CERTAINTY is the winner's edge... and, I believe that he is right...

The World According to Brock - Google Video
I watched this one quite a bit time ago but I liked it and might watch again some time.
I remember in this movie he talked that at one race meeting(he's a racing driver) he tried to drive one turn that was considered to be impossible to drive in full throttle, flat out and afterwards everyone started doing it this way.

Btw you as a chiropractor could maybe like that movie. (scroll to about 20 minutes mark to see why)

But not to hijack the thread too early... how do I know what is definitely impossible, not even worth trying? But then again... I guess there aren't many things that aren't worth even trying...hmmm I gotta go and think about this one more...

This is exactly why my position on the subject of unknowable, yet far-fetched beliefs is what it is, Shamou.

Btw, if you want to see the power of possibilities in action, watch the movie Apollo 13. The only possibility that Gene Kranz was not open to was failure. The results of that resolve were spectacular to say the least.

And it's a good movie too.

Keeping an open mind is a most admirable trait... and I congratulate you on that... few people a mature and evolved enough to be able to master the art of it...

However, I also believe that it can be carried too far... and that when one stops being open minded... and starts being gullible..

Did you know that in the horse and buggy days... before the car was introduced, the medical establishment used to profess that the human body could not sustain speed upward of 30 mph...???

Myths have been broken...

I know one guy who believed that everything was possible... so he fell off the balcony and broke both legs...

So, when believing that all is possible... let's be positive...

Default Possibilities

The abilities displayed by those labelled as 'savants' is pretty mind blowing, and poses questions regarding limits and beliefs, and the general understanding of reality. Even more amazing is the dismissal, lack of research and lack of understanding of those incredible abilities.
