I am reminded that it's that time of year again! National Novel Writing Month I'm not going to be novel-writing this year, but I am going to use it as the prompt I need to get a substantial quantity of business-orientated writing done. |

Interesting, I made a decision without even knowing about this to do a 30 day writing challenge. Although like you Coolbee, I will not be writing a novel, however will be probably writing close to enough words if i achieve my daily goal. |

That is really the goal that I would like to be working towards writing in the region of 50k words per month. I should go and really take a look at what the rules or guidelines are before I get started. |

Ok I am confused I can see most of the things, but when i go to writing buddies there is no option to add people. Maybe I am missing something. Also I guess even if using it for other purposes you still create a novel in the setup ? |

To add a buddy. You have to know their username. Put that in 'search'. What will come up will be in two sections - one is the novels section and the other is the profiles section. Look through the profiles brought up (hopefully only 1!) for your buddy. Then, when you click their profile, near the top right in tiny writing is 'add buddy'. Re the 'novel' - yes. I just wrote "business writing" in mine. |

Ok I think I pretty much kind of have the hang of things now. Also being three days in it looks like I am on target, stats are showing me at 1701words per day, where the target is 1667. So at the moment I am pleased. But the kicker is that yes while it may be on target, there is still 90% of the challenge to go so a bit of a way yet. How are you doing all? |

I'm 'researching' LOL. I added an extra 1300 words or something like that to a long blog article on Day 2 so that's the words I bagged. (I'm a Nano Rebel btw) In 2009 I did over 40000 words in the last 5 days Quality work or what .... NOT |

I know i did see your stats, however like to make things more public it is good for encouragement, to keep going and also accountability (at least my view on it anyway). I really beleive if I come up with the right topic and have enough to say about it, 10,000 words in a single day would be entirely possible. I mean about a week ago ,two days back to back i wrote two posts about a trip i am planning next year that were around 1700 each and total time i spent on them was 2 hours. I have some ideas, that will either leave me stumped or really accelerate my word count. I mean before i read this thread the other day I already had made the decision on my blog to do a writing challenge in November and had set my daily target at 1400 words. So this is just pushing me that little bit further. Crazy thing is if i included all of my forum posting and other activity on the computer each day I would be 70% at a rough guess in just three days. |

Yes, that's why you have to define for yourself at the start what will count and what won't! Any business writing I do will count (because it's from scratch). Also the blog post I made was 6200 words and 1300 were completed after the start. I also have one other blog post I have promised which is a visit review and will be long and detailed, so I will count that too. If I counted all my blathering on FB and forums I've probably done 50000 already |

I know what you mean, ironically even though i am working on the challenge, writers block is popping up for me. Edging around it though. What I have defined is that any content that I create from scratch that can be either immediately published or published in the future will be counted. Because of my other challenge i already created i find that I am feeling that i hold back a little as well. I have ideas but i do not want to use them all up one day writing a whole lot, i want to spread them out. Need to work through this a little. |
