trying to force myself to do a thing for a second i understoood what it means when you have no choice or its all over like i could pretend that this was the reality in my head, a life / death situation (then it flickered away) what do you think about telling yourself "you have no choice or its all over" sometimes it is the end of the world if i dont do thing i am used to convincing myself the opposite"oh im just gonna dick around on fb for 10" does anyone think its just a matter of chosing the thoughts that are in your head? could i make myself feel urgent at any time? this sounds so totally obvious, but i am becoming a spacecase so (too much free time, my school is way too easy) i have a habit of making things take longer, and be harder than they are atm. because they get drawn out. but imagine if someone had a gun to my back while i was doing it, think i could make that like my autodrive? should i just imagine that? i am always trying to shift my habits so lemme know Last edited by Kronique; 10-10-2011 at 01:59 AM. |

It's very difficult to convince your mind that doing x means life or death. It's easier to convince yourself that you enjoy doing x or that you have the willpower to do x right now. Concentrate on the benefits of doing it and what the end result will be. What works best for me is actually turning off my mind altogether and becoming robotic, then just get up and do it. Quote:
Or enlist someone as an accountability partner, someone who's not holding a gun to your back, but will hold you accountable. | |

Agreed with Lioness. Your attitude is great. I also want to convince myself that lack of action in certain situations equals death. It is hard to get your reptilian brain to accept such facts, though. The best you can do is act it on principle, by putting yourself at disadvantages that seem life-threatening. Recently, I quit my main money-making job because I wanted to convince myself that not becoming freelance is death. Now, if I cannot generate money on my own, I have no income. Try similar stuff. Perhaps if you give me a specific goal, I can give you advice for how to make it a life/death-like situation. For example, you want a raise: Walk into your bosses's office unannounced. Your boss will either be impressed or disappointed by your audacity, dependent on what you say next. |
