| https://habitforge.com Has anyone else used this website? If so, has it been useful? Just discovered it tonight and have already set up a goal on there, so let's see if it works! It just helps you set up a 21-day goal to develop a new habit, sends you e-mails each day asking you if you achieved it. If not, you start back at day 1. |

This has turned out to be really helpful so far. I have now completed 7 days on the 21-day journey of habit change for the one I'm currently doing. You can only do one at a time unless you pay $10. I think I'll do it it since it's good for a whole year and the product is very helpful.

The habit I'm doing with Habit Forge, I "knew" within a couple days that I would make it this far, and I'm certain that I've already established this habit even though it's only Day 7. It's possible, but unlikely, that I will miss a day within the next two weeks, but even if I do, I know I'll get right back on track. I like this tool, though, because I wouldn't have even made that commitment without it. Something about clicking on "I did it today!" each day and knowing it'll be reset if I say no really motivates me in this case. Last edited by Cochonette; 10-05-2011 at 05:20 AM. | |

Forming a habit in 21 days is not true, it's an urban myth. Look for the paper entitled: How are habits formed: Modelling habit formation in the real world How does this website work, all you get is an e-mail every day and you mark your progress? I don't think that it will work in the long term unless there is some accountability (eg, something like Stickk) or a social dimension (eg, something like Hubbub Health which I am using right now). |

Have you considered looking at Loopchange 21 days to change a habit.... 21 days to a better you It's similar to habitforge - but add in a healthy dose of community (encouragement and accountability). You CAN get daily reminders if you want them (or not). You can also run as many missions as you want to for no cost (site is entirely free). Loopchange 21 days to change a habit.... 21 days to a better you |

I started to sign up for loopchange, but it sounds so laborious and excessive to me and doesn't even mention whether or not it includes the core aspect of Habit Forge that I like. I do not need to update my mission each day, good lord, nor spend time cheerleading others, just to have accountability.

That's ok! Not every site is a fit for every person. I'm not sure what you mean by 'laborious' - updating your mission daily (which can be as simple as a forum post saying "Did it" of "done") is optional - not required (though I think it helps to establish the new behavior as it keeps your goal on your mind). I've seen people who post several times a day - and people who posted only 3 times over the course of 60 days. There is no set in stone requirement. On another note though - I think you might be underestimating the power that encouraging others can have in your own life. (but again - maybe I'm just a weirdo!) |

Ah! Good point. That's kind of goofy that that checkbox is there (I'd actually forgotten it since my account is a couple months old) - but when you actually create a mission - you can check a box to 'disable email reminders' (as an option on the page where you would type in a mission update). For me, I'm confident that I'm not going to 'forget' about my mission - so I check the 'disable' box. That way I never get any emails (unless I opt in to the system that sends me an email if someone comments on my mission - or unless I opt in to email me if a mission I'm following is updated) Sorry, not trying to argue you into using it or anything |
