Question Who wants to join me for a May Challenge?

Dear All,

looking at a previous post for
Julia.RU "How about an April Challenge"

and because i become very lazy in the last month i thought of making a May challenge

so i will write a list of things that should have done them by the end of May

by joining me I can keep on track by seeing what others are doing and how they are committing to their goals that will really encourage me

so here we goes
by the end of may I would've done the following (hopefully)
1- Finish preparing my presentation about Time Management PSUT university ..hopefully i will do well ... this is my first public speech as a representitive of the company i work in

2- Be MCTS certified in distributed applications programming

3- make sure that we finish this release on time

4- finish 50% of my first blog dont know how exactly

Shame on me if i fail

I will join you, for now only for the occasional kick in the butt though. Later on I might share my own goals for the month, we'll see. My life is undergoing so much change right now that I can't really keep any stable goals because my entire life vision gets refined daily.

I can share one;
1) Write down my goals for May.

Challenges are very good.
  • Reach milestone 2 for my latest programming project
  • Finish atleast 3 books
  • Complete my placement exams and complete course selections for college
  • Make money
  • Back pack Mt. Charleston
  • Grow my blog
  • Channel more often
  • Meditate EVERY morning for a minimum of 30 minutes
  • Eat a breakfast that feels good
  • Work out
  • Follow my plans to the dime (last month it was sporadic) every day
  • Allow each sunday to be a non-plan-following day
  • Play a more diverse selection of music more often!
  • Get OUT OF BED at 6 AM every morning
  • Socialize more
  • Get a girlfriend (I am good lookin' so I don't know why it is taking so long)
  • If I keep going my plans will be too big...

That looks pretty good to me. This pretty much was the same setup I had last month but only followed sporadically, this time I want to achieve a higher success rate (preferably every day!).

I'll bite
  • Have all my Uni projects handed in for the semester (pretty much a given since they're all due mid-may)
  • Have my next novel fully outlined
  • Have at least three chapters down for said novel
  • Have all the rejiggings I'm planning for my websites done
  • Figure out domain forwarding for said websites
  • Have an action plan for my dissertation (not due for a few months, but I might as well get ready and start it)
  • Have an autonomous backup system set up for my computer (gonna use scheduled Rsync backups and Carbon Copy Clones onto my MyBook)
  • Get up at 7 am every morning (Alas, I'm not quite as ambitious as Iksander )

Domain name forwarding is a fairly simple matter.

6 AM is pretty ambitious, I agree, I tried for 4 and 5 AM a few times and it just didn't feel natural. Tough bit is, I have ALWAYS been a night owl, since I was a little kid; so this one is a challenge for me. It is worth being on time with the rest of the world though.

I am happy to participate. Here is my list.
  • Get my "stuff" (documents, magazines, papers and other things) organised.
  • Put down and organise what is still left for me to do in university this semester.
  • Make a "game plan" for next semester (or better yet, the remainder of my Bachelor degree(s)).
  • Work three hours (at least) each and every day.
  • Finish project (work) currently at hand and start the next.
  • Make a business plan for a site I run.
  • Create an outline for my personal website.
  • Hit the gym three times a week.
  • Exercise every morning.
  • Go running three times a week.
  • Go swimming at least once.
  • Learn salsa to an intermediate level (at least).
  • Throw a party for friends.
  • See a doctor about some analyses.
  • "Fix" my leg pains (do stretches, see a specialised physician etc).
  • Get off caffeine (not coffee, but vitamins and energy drinks with added "spunk").
  • Get up at 5 AM every morning (or 10 AM if I had partied the night before).
I will let you all know how it turns out at the end of the month.

well ... i know i can not and i have my reasons ....
there are two kinds of people .... day workers and night workers ... depending on their body nature
i am a night worker ... my peak energy time is after 1 am ... an hour work = 3 hours working after 8 am .... therefore i can not wake up at 6 even if i want to

you know although i wake up every day at 7:00 AM on weekends i wake up at 1:00 PM even if i went to sleep at 8:00 PM ... this is just how my body works

Ah, so you don't want to. That's different than oyu can not. I used to be the same way as you, a regular night owl. So the change is totally possible, the qeustion of whehter you want to or not, based on certain criteria is more important, though. You might consider a 30-day trial. THat is, try to wake up at the same time every day for thirty days and see how it works for you. If it doesn't owrk, forget it.

Yay! Nice company! I'm eager to join you. Of course, I've already started a challenge on the 1st of May, but didn't have time to post it yet.
Here it is:
1) Do exercises for my back every other day.
Actually, it's the continuation of my April challenge. I'll stick to it till June 1st as I do these exercises not every day, but once in 2 days. Haven't missed a work out so far!
2) Don't eat for 4 hours before going to bed.
First started it on May 1st, failed the next day and started again on May 3rd.
3) Wake up at 8 every morning.
I'll start it on May 8th or 10th (depends on when my holiday will be over). Anyway, I'll have 21 days to work on this habit.

I have to post the results of my April challenge and I'll do it later.

Good luck to everyone!

P.S. Maybe I get it wrong but I thought a challenge meant exactly a 30-day trial on this forum. For example, I do work outs (not for my back, but for the whole body) 3 times a week this month, but I don't consider it a challenge as I don't have to do it every day.

I'm in

- I will post at least 3 new articles on my blog (probably startup ideas)
- read two books at least (for each book I read I buy another two so they're more and more every day )
- Start work on two of my newest projects (RoR rocks)

Can't wait the end of May to see how we've all managed to fulfill these goals

So far so good for me, two days past and I woke up yesterday at 7:30; then today at 4:30 (I think when you make major sleeping cycle changes these fluctuations are normal).

Yesterday I actually did some productive writing and planning for my programming projects.

Today I ate a good breakfast, but could be better (just a grapefruit).

Yesterday I did some reading. (am about to go do that)
Yesterday I did some meditating. (am about to do this too)

Girlfriend thing just needs time I suppose (sex would be nice till that time though!).

Feeling mellower and calmer already as a result. Yay for challenges!

Default didnt do well :(

so far non of my activities reflect my goals ... except working on meeting the release deadline at work ... other than that i did nothing

on Saturday i returned home tired then went for sleep then watched my share of TV.

yesterday i went out with my family to meet friends ... well we stayed until mid night so when i returned home i had to go to sleep i was so tired and again did nothing ...

i am eating more than i should ... i gain weight and yesterday i found out that i am not able to wear my old clothes nor my sister's new clothes any more ... i gain 5 kg and i am not working on the treadmill either.

anyway today i have to read a book about configuration management , tomorrow we have a meeting to discuss it at work ... so nothing for today but tomorrow in God's well i will have the time to work on the presentation i am supposed to make at the end of May ... when i finish it i will post it here to find your opinions about it it is about time management which so far i thing i am a big failure at ...

Mind you, I don't have a job! So I have lots of free time to work on my goals.

So what you had some fun on the weekend, kick it into gear come Monday (tomorrow) and choose to feel good about it. 9 to 5 jobs are tough, but, if you manage to fall asleep by maybe 11 and wakeup by 6 that is nine more hours you can apply towards your goals. (adjust it according to your work hours, 9-5 was just an example).

Maybe, you can just focus on your goals during the work week, ride off of the structure work gives you to reign in those goals. Reserve the weekend for 'time wasting'; movies, friends, whatever.

Your #1 priority should be to not stress about your goals. Stress will not make it any fun, and it may actually make it harder to go after them.

As promised here are my goals for the month;

- Study investing/trading
- Deliver flyers 5 days/week for business
- Produce business cards
- Put up newspaper adds and some other methods to promote my business
- Read several books on PD and listen to audio's on network marketing
- Excersize more regularily, look for ways to 'force' myself. This probably means I end up becoming a martial artist.
- Put up a rough draft for a book (very rough, just something to get rolling)
- Build my business so I can move out of my parents within 2 months, goal =1000 euro's/month before moving out.

Those are my definite goals and I have a few more in the back of my mind that I might complete if I have the time.
