I was just sitting here reading and a thought popped in my head and I wanted to know if anyone else felt this way........ do you ever get sick of words ? do you read something in a book or on a website and say to yourself -wow that is a lot of words to say just one thing is it just me ? can we say something with less words or maybe no words at all ? are all these words necessary ? ?? |

Words are limiting, much like the finite human mind; perhaps direct experience through keener awareness and higher levels of consciousness enable one to move beyond words and mind…infinitely more.

More seriously, I have a Master's Degree in English Literature. I teach English. I teach words. I live words. I write music, write poetry, write stories, write letters. I love carefully chosen words, yet in conversation I say very little. With words, so much gets misconstrued. Especially with interpersonal communication, words even become weapons. Or some people will just talk and talk and never actually say anything . . . I am very comfortable in silence, socially or otherwise. I wish I knew more people who could truly claim the same. Catch phrase: Less is more. |

This can happen in conversation and in speeches as well. One of the more common issues that some beginner speakers have at Toastmasters is that they actually use too many words to convey a single point or idea. What we usually tell them is that if it takes 15 words to express an idea, use 15 words, not 30. Using more words than necessary just bores the audience. |

so I see that many do agree I think I was overwhelmed yesterday ............ I was putting together some material for a class I was going to teach and I realized just how much we say that can be condensed to very little now I do appreciate the written word because I am an avid reader and a fan of the written word -esp good quotes ,books and poetry but for some reason this one website that I was on was driving me 'nuts' with it's ongoing babble of words anyway thanks for listening to my rambling ........... |
