If I want to be at work at 9:00 am, I have to wake up at 4:00 a.m., if not earlier. Why? Because it takes me 4 hours to get ready (1 hr commute)!! If I'm really really forced to, I can get ready within 1hr or 1.5 hrs, but that means skipping breakfast and practically having a heart attack due to having to rush and fight so hard against my sluggishness. Yeah, I'm a blob in the morning. I'm a sloooow eater - as in, I take an hour to eat the amount of food that I need in order to not be hungry (always ravenous in the morning). That's a LOT of food...usually 2 or 3 bowls of cereal or 3 waffles buttered on both sides. With tea, vitamins, etc. It's not the prep time that takes a long time, it's how long it simply takes for me to eat. Even shakes take me forever to drink! But without all the food, I feel sick and faint. (I'm not fat by the way) Usually I'll read or check my email while I'm eating breakfast, so I don't get bored. And then when I finally make my way up, it feels like a monumental effort, and any slight movement in my body feels like strenuous exercise - I literally feel breathless and have to sit and rest in between "get ready" tasks. It's a little better after my shower, but still I'm sluggish and really slow moving, like molasses. Sometimes I'll catch myself just sitting and drifting off into space, completely still. I drink a lot of water, especially upon waking up. I jump up and down 50 times (mainly to shake out sleep-induced bloating from my face), and I shower in the mornings, so what's up? It's not even a mental thing, because I can be totally stoked about the day, but my physical sluggishness overrules all that. Any suggestions on how to get my ass moving in the morning? EDIT: This happens whether I sleep 4 hours, 8 hours or 10 hours. Every morning, no exceptions. And another thing, I'm only 21! EDIT EDIT: And this only in the morning, at the start of my day. Once I'm all ready and headed out, I'm my normal energetic self!! Last edited by ENTP; 09-11-2011 at 02:11 AM. |

Just focus on eating it. Over time the boredom will make you eat faster. Quote:

You need to make it a habit, its takes about 21 to 30 days to create a new habit. Make a conscious effort to start you day with a bang and stick to it for 30 day, add about 10 minutes exercise just after you get out of bed and things will turn around. If that doesn't work, you may want to check if you have a sleeping disorder call Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. |

Agree with other replies so far. Forget about email in the morning as that is slowing you down. Also, for the time being, try to prepare some of your breakfast the night before as well as anything else you can prep in advance. The time you take is indeed way too long compared to average. I can wake up and be out the door in 40 minutes if I want to and that includes a full breakfast. Maybe you should do some drills on the weekend to speed your routine up. |

I think you might want to talk to a doctor about it. It could be that there is a certain hormone missing, or over producing that creates this sluggishness in you. My brother was always told off for being lazy and simply not wanting to get up in the morning... until he went to the doctor and they found out that he had a certain sleep producing hormone that didn't start producing until way later. So when he needed to get up at 7am, he was still in the deepest part of his sleep, and simply couldn't get up, or he would be exactly like you for a few hours... |

Get up and go for a walk first thing in the morning. Walk maybe half a mile and see how you feel after you've done that. It shouldn't take too long, maybe 10 minutes or so. Go outside and get the fresh air when you walk, don't walk on a treadmill. Do some deep breathing as you walk. Make sure the sun is at least a little bit shining so that you get some vitamin D. Exercise is something that will energize almost anyone. Start slow and gradually increase your time and distance. If you feel like running after a few months, go ahead and do that. You'll be much more energized after doing physical activity, but don't push yourself too hard to begin with. Exercise and sunlight have been shown to reduce depression and other motivational issues. The fresh air helps as well. It is far less toxic than the air indoors. Perhaps that is why so many people don't feel so well most of the time. If you're getting up at 4AM to go to a job at 9AM or 10AM, you're probably distracting yourself before you get ready. Internet and television always make me eat slower and get ready slower. But, I wake up about 4-5 hours before I have to go to work, but I work nights. Going for a walk gets me ready to start my day (night). |
