Question Oh dear - I just had a wake up call!

Hi everyone

I have been in my current area of work for a reasonably long time now, I have aimed high and achieved reasonably high but it has been a struggle: the problem I have is that when reading one of Steve's articles, I realised that I have not been enjoying the process, just the relief of getting something finished. The process of work is like having teeth pulled.

Now ... it could be that I am associating the work with some serious trauma I went through when I started to work (and started my education for it) ... or it could be that I am in the wrong area of work. I find it incredibly difficult to start work on it and have trouble getting up to face it. I have been spending a lot of time trying to improve my productivity - but if it is the wrong job, it is the wrong job ...

I am really not sure what to do.

Any thoughts?

Good luck with everything

Lily

A job is something that we “have” to do… that’s why we get paid for it… However that does not mean that we cannot learn to love what we do… but that does take some doing…

To love what you do… evidently you have to get some personal satisfaction out of it… and that is usually in the form heightened self-worth brought about by a sense of contribution… or self-expression…

Bottom line is how you see yourself in that profession…

Take a teacher for example… one teacher can see himself trying to convey some information to a bunch of unruly kid… where the other can see himself prepare young minds for the future… which do you think will get more satisfaction out of is work…???

Now, unless you basically hate what you do… there is a way that you can find satisfaction out of it… and it’s your job to find out how…

As far as that “trauma” is concerned… I would put that on the back burner… we all have traumas and it does not have to ruin out lives…

Good luck to you...

There are two ways to do this;
1) Change the way your looking at the job (as Shamou mentioned)
2) Change the job

What will you choose?

Ps. Shamou I really enjoyed all the great contributions you make to this forum, thank you so much !

I second the good wishes

I am now attempting to work at this job from love rather than fear - if I can do that, I keep at it

if it doesn't ... I move on

all the best

Lily
