I'm at a huge risk for having to leave NYC if I don't find a job by October.. My uncle is willing to help me with financial support for "plan b" meaning a big change which would require moving. I'm not finding any employment so far no matter what I do, and the thought of having to leave the city where I've dreamed of living in my adult life scares me to no end I guess for many reasons. I just want to cry, and I don't do a lot of that at all. I guess what I hate to admit is that..sigh..maybe NYC is just getting to expensive and I'm better off moving and getting stable and then coming back..or it's that I don't want to feed into the fact that I need a crappy job to support myself here. I've even given some serious thought to the military at this point for many reasons. I don't know..I'm really stressed out right now and I'm really looking trying to sort out my thoughts here and hopefully you all can help me with some advice. What would you do? |

I ended up moving 1200 miles away to get a job. It was the best thing I ever did. I think if you move the chances of you getting a job are higher. New York is very expensive also as you mentioned. If it really bothers you to think about leaving, then consider it a temporary situation and when things improve, make plans to come back to New York. |

This is funny. An account manager from Workforce 1 in Manhattan, which is where I am, saw my resume on Craigslist and just called me in reference to a job as a tutor, which would pay pretty good. However, I'm not certified as a tutor but he thinks he can still help me being as I have a certificate from a home health aid course I took months ago so he's calling me tomorrow. I honestly would love to be helping kids over the elderly, so a tutor might be a good fit for me. However the first thing I think of is the time frame I'm under and the cost of the course at a college. Ahhhh, help me.

What's wrong with starting out as a tutor and working on getting the course done as you are financially able? It seems this guy has faith in you. You'd probably get more clients just by word of mouth. You can just tell people you are in the process of getting your certificate. I think most people aren't going to be concerned about it.

My concern is my Uncle will be concerned because he's the one financially supporting me and telling me that he's prepared to help me financially next month "make a big change" which to him requires leaving NYC, I do believe. That's why I feel rushed and uncertain right now as what to do... | |

Be careful with scams on Craigslist. You didn't fail. You went after your dream and took risks.Winning! If you have a nice little place in N.Y can you sublet it for 6 months and go make some dough somewhere else. Also, if you have already put genuine effort in looking for a job, it might be about to pay very soon. Why don't you give yourself 10 days where you do absolutely everything to get a job. I mean really putting in 40 hours minimum per week to look for a job, getting your resume right, dressing the part, everything. At least you won't feel bad if you don't succeed. Your uncle seems to make you choose between passion and reason. Beware of people who are encouraging you to give up your dreams. New York will always be there for you. If this was your dream to live there, and your dream is starting to be spoiled by survival living, then maybe you can revisit that dream later. I love your picture and you look like a N.Y kinda girl. Best of luck. |
