| I need to give myself a crash course in basic carpentry, painting, and domestic tasks in general. Can anyone recommend a book on the subject? Or perhaps a series of books? It's time I correct this long standing problem. I don't need to be an expert right away. I only really desire to achieve competency at the moment. Thanks, Andrew

| Anything from Taunton press is going to be spot on. I would recommend picking up a copy of Fine Homebuilding Magazine, too. Taunton also has a great web page (taunton.com) and a forum (breaktime) for amatuer and professional carpenters. A couple of books that come to mind are: The Very Efficient Carpenter by Larry Haun. Precision Framing by Mike Guertin. Drywall by Myron Ferguson. Gary Katz has some amazing books and he has a fantastic web page at garymkatz.com. Hope this helps. |
