Default Depressed about job hunt

I have started commercial sex work (dancing, sex work).

Meanwhile, I'm still looking for that dream long term career. I narrowed in on Sexuality Studies professor because it incorporates my talents and interests, and is at the core of what I believe in: women's sexual liberation.

I'm afraid to go back to school, owe the government a quarter of a million dollars, and be unemployed or still dancing for tips.

So I decided to look for a similar job at a sexual freedom foundation where you'd only need a bachelors and I can just work my way up the food chain. If I could do that, I'd be living my dream. I don't care that much about money, I'm a very simple, frugal person who just enjoys the basics.

I've located many places but I feel discouraged. I feel like this job hunting process is taking way way way too long and that I deserve to have a good job by now. I'm a good person, I was a diligent student, I don't get it. What am I doing wrong here? I know we're in a recession but everyone I know has a job. To make matters worse my mom is not exactly supportive of my dreams.

Quick question: is it f'd up to send out the same cover letter/resume to the same company twice for two different openings that they have posted? Will both be turned away because of that?

If you have the time and inclination then always tailor at least the covering letter to suit the job that you are applying for.

It's very easy, just take every bullet point from the job advert or description and reply precisely to it. This makes it easier for the hirer to see that you are a good fit. Otherwise they have to interpret and take a guess as to whether your profile is right or not. Most of them won't bother and your application will go in the bin so don't make them do the work for you - that's your responsibility.

The best book on job hunting that I've ever come across is What Color Is Your Parachute. It takes an alternative approach to job hunting and it works, if you follow the method properly. It's harder that just sending of letters and CVs willy-nilly but it does land you the jobs that you want.

Really liked the article that Angelique linked to - I hadn't properly considered that take on the job interview before.

Thanks kiddos.

Two questions:

1. Should I submit a hard copy in addition to the email copy, like via fax/mail?

2. If the ad says "please no phone calls" does that mean I can't call to follow up on the status of my application?
