I don't want this to be a novel so I am just going to post the very basics and can fill in what I need to later. 1. I am miserable at my job. Basically I like what I am doing, but because I am seen as capable I am having things added to my job that are now keeping me from doing what I am actually PAID to do. This will not change, there is no "talk to the boss" I work for more of a dictator anyway. 2. I have an intense desire to have my own business, but I have no clue what kind. I have a 4 year degree, I also got my personal training cert thinking I might like to do that, but there is just not enough money in that. 3. Although I have these intense desires to own my business etc, I just don't seem to have the drive to finish what I start. For example, the personal training. I got a website up, was going to offer Skype sessions etc, and was hoping to make money from a fitness related blog, but it all just fizzled. 4. I do set goals but seem to have a tendency towards self-sabotage. I don't want anyone thinking I am looking for a quick fix, I have done a LOT of work on myself, spiritually and otherwise, I read personal development blogs and magazines, and I DO take action, but it seems to fizzle out or the self-sabotage stuff comes up. For instance I started teaching myself to develop apps for the iPod/iPad and wanted to finish the book I was using this month. I was on target to do it, but just stopped and now it would be impossible to finish in the time I have left. I guess my question is, what the hell is my problem and has anyone else had these issues and found a successful solution? |

You sound like you need help with your life, and one suggestion I have is to read this thread about most benevolent outcomes. This method may not solve all your problems but you will get some help in practical ways. The Gentle Way: requesting most benevolent outcomes From what you said so far, I would ask your guardian angel for help using MBO's, let's see if you say something like this outloud you'll get the ball rolling. "I request the most benevolent outcome to finish the book I started to read on apps for an ipod (you can fill in the details here) and may this outcome be even better than I could hope for or expect". Once that's said,... your guardian angel has been given permission by you to start to help in ways you never thought.... so give it shot and see how it comes out. |

I suspect your problem is not setting goals but rather making unflexible plans. As I wrote in this article, you should recognise that you are not an inflexible machine. Work with your knowledge of yourself and your own limitations to design plans you can keep to. This means that you should feel free to extend a deadline if you weren't able to keep to the one you originally set. Don't beat yourself up for failing to work every time you said you would. | |

Thank you both for your advice, I find both very useful. 1by1- you are right, I thought of that while I was writing, I guess I just wanted to prove to myself that I could meet a deadline I set for myself. I have no problem meeting deadlines set for me by others. I mean how will I ever run a decent business if I can't meet deadlines? However I guess deep down I knew it wasn't a true deadline. It did not have to happen in that time. AP- I have recited your saying today! I will try anything! |

I don't mean to be flagrantly self promotional, but it seems like you need to read my blog. Basically my advice boils down to this: 1) Create a Left Brained plan to get exactly what you want. 2) Chip away at it, just a little at a time, every day, until the job is done. There is no fizzle, just baby steps forward all the time. That's it. |
