Default what dose "now-they-know-how-many-holes-it-takes-to-fill-the-Albert-Hall" mean?

I read a passage this morning, but I cannot catch the meaning of the sentence"now-they-know-how-many-holes-it-takes-to-fill-the-Albert-Hall" . (The whole sentence is below) What dose it mean? Is it a idiom?

It’s a "now-they-know-how-many-holes-it-takes-to-fill-the-Albert-Hall" situation. Because researchers have measured the actual blood alcohol level of fans leaving professional football and baseball games.

The Royal Albert Hall is a big concert hall in London built during the Victorian era.

The line you are quoting is from a Beatles song, A Day in the Life (the Beatles were a British band, so it makes sense they are talking about that Albert Hall). From what I know the line doesn't have any particular meaning, Lennon just thought it sounded good. But of course it is a famous song so it's going to find a meaning over time.

I'm not sure exactly what the author of that passage means. It's possible they jsut thought it was a nice reference and stuck it in without thinking about what it means. As a guess I'd say its something to do with holes from injections to measure blood acohol content? But hard to say without more context.

I have heard that this line was taken from a newspaper. It was part of a story describing how the Blackburn council sent someone out to identify all the potholes in the city's roads. This they did, but the report cost so much that, having identified all the potholes, they couldn't afford to repair any of them.

Is what it said on the internet, but I always heard it was supposed to mean how many *ssholes it took to fill The Albert Hall. I did find a reference or two pointing somewhat in that direction while searching.

What was the rest of the article talking about? It's hard to pick up the context w/ just those two sentences.

It's not an idiom.
