Smile Imagine receiving a letter from the seven year old 'you'!

I just read the most amazing article written by a guy who is forty three who received a letter from the seven year old 'him'.

Obviously the story is fanciful but it got me thinking, what would a letter from 'you' as a seven year ask the adult 'you'?

In his next article he writes a letter back to the seven year old 'him' providing him with some answers.

Would the seven year old 'you' be happy with the adult 'you' and the way you turned out? What would you tell the seven year old 'you' about his life?

I really liked thinking about these two scenarios!

If anyone is interested you can find the first article here, and the second article here.

Mine would go something like this:

7 year old me:

Hey you stupid old (expletive deleted) I don't have time to write. I'm too busy playing outside

40 year old me back to 7 year old me:

Like I give a (expletive deleted) what you think, punk kid

I'm just one of the inmates here and don't have any responsibility for running the asylum, but if you're going to shill a website at least have the courtesy to contribute to the discussion a little bit. This forum is very tolerant about shameless self promotion--and rightfully so--but it chaps my ass to see spam--subtle though it may be--from non-contributors. You wouldn't try to take a girl to bed without buying her dinner first--same deal here.

I don't feel like I was led to "buy" anything just because I was led to a blog, for heaven's sake.

It's an interesting idea, for a kid to write to his older self. I was disappointed that it was just the guy imagining what he would have written as a seven year old, but I was inspired to ask the kids in my world if they'd like to write to their older selves. It would be a fun classroom assignment, too, for any teachers out there.

Mine would go something like this:

Dear Phil,
whats it like now your older? Is it good? Did I ever become popular? Have I taken over the world yet?
Bye Bye

This is how my reply would look,

Dear 7year old Me,
Being older is the best! Although you have a lot more responsibility, you get too all sorts of cool stuff! Sorry buddy but popularity never really showed up, but its just as well, in about three or four years your gonna start one hell of a journey, I can't relly tell you much though because it would spoil the fun! Unfortunately NO you havn't taken over the world, but never fear, its all in the works.
Catch you in 9 years buddy!

i did this once as an exercise from a jean houston book. (jean houston rocks, by the way!)

it was slightly different though -- cos we were supposed to imagine that our childhood selves knew our grownup selves and wanted to say something to them.

mine was something like:

dear my good friend madge,

you are so much fun and i love spending time with you. most grownups i know talk to me like i'm stupid and seem to spend most of their time running around like crazy people.

but when i come to your house and see the pretty things youve made, and hear your stories and tell you mine, it gives me hope that being an adult could actually be pretty fun.

if anyone tells you anything mean, you let me know and i'll make my big puppy dog eyes at them till they say sorry. cause i think you are the best and i love you!
