Default Who's in San Diego who has done the Landmark Forum?

Just discovered that the fabulous Randy MacNamara will be leading the Advanced Course this weekend, and today's the last day to sign up for it. I'm thinking about signing up even though it's an hour and a half away, just because of the utter fabulousness of this guy -- far and away the best seminar leader I have ever encountered.

Just wanted to alert interested Landmark grads!

Haven't done it. A weekend course is probably pretty busy, but if you were down here and had a bit of free time, first round is on me!

This doesn't answer your question in any way, but my brother did all of the courses in 2007 and is now an introduction leader. He got all of my family into it and I was the last one.

I am doing my SELP in April!

Did you do the Advanced Course recently, Syndicate? What did you think of it?

I did the Advanced course in early December and I thought it was excellent. Still, there are still some things that I don't completely agree with, including some of the business strategies that Landmark uses.

I don't agree with the setup of long hours and very few, short breaks. I just can't believe that there isn't another way to spread the Landmark Forum and the Advanced Course over the course of a few more days or, instead, a few weekends. Our hours were 10 AM - Midnight with no exceptions, and I had to travel a back and forth from my hotel.

Also, I still believe they are primarily a business and so I didn't appreciate how pushy some of the leaders were when it came to enrolling others in the SELP. I did register for the SELP but it was only after I took the time to decide if it was right for me. I didn't give into the pressure and guilt trips some, as my brother would say, "inexperienced" leaders put on people. My brother works very closely with Landmark and after I told him about some of the things that went on, he got in contact with the Toronto Centre and they will be looking to make changes to the way they enroll people. It's something he is helping them with. As long as you can make decisions yourself and not be pressured into something that doesn't feel right, you will be fine.

They will say things like, "If you want to live a life you love, then what do you have to think about? Just register." While I do believe there is a benefit to committing yourself to something rather than saying, "I'll register later", People should be aware that Landmark Education is just one avenue within the field of self-development and so nobody should be pressured into dropping hundreds of dollars on something they may or may not find beneficial.

Still, I wouldn't have registered into the SELP if I didn't find the Advanced Course useful. If you do the Advanced Course, you should, as Tim Ferris would say, be proactively skeptical rather than to going in with your mind already made.

P.S. I should say that my leader for the Advanced Course was Alain Roth, the man who brought Landmark to France, only to have it banned because of bad publicity. He was just awesome.

Well you might not have time for much then?

"proactively skeptical" I really like that. I could use that in a lot of contexts.

@Syndicate, I was very resistant to the self-marketing -- I hated it, and got all inwardly tantrummy the whole time. And out of that, I had one of my most valuable breakthroughs: the power of a quality "No." I had spent a lot of time feeling "pressured" by others in my life, and I am delighted to have disconnected that.

In SELP, you'll get more of that: vigorous invitations to register for ILC or a seminar. I don't resent those vigorous invitations anymore; I myself wouldn't have registered for the forum in the first place if my friend hadn't really been, shall we say, persistent.

I have done some post-curriculum seminars and other stuff, and my all-time favorite was the Communication Courses -- LOVED them! They were like Advanced-Advanced courses.

I'm not going to do this weekend's course, but I think I will do the Advanced Course again maybe in March. I just love Randy MacNamara, who led my first advanced course, so I'd love to do one that he leads, but all those leaders are astonishing and inspiring.
