| I'm in Melbourne, it's a lovely place to live. Not sure if we have cheap, cheap rent, but I think you get better money for your buck than in Sydney. Here's one of the big realestate rental sites in Australia Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au and here's another helpful site about Melbourne, Victoria Melbourne Victoria Australia - visitvictoria.com The official travel and accommodation site for Melbourne Victoria Australia We're very much into the arts down here, so there are always lots of fun and exciting things to do. Lots of festivals. If you want to live in Melbourne, most travellers like to live close to the inner city. Here are the popular areas: St Kilda (young, trendy) Fitzroy (young, trendy and arts scene) Melbourne (young, trendy and arts scene) South Yarra (this is a very upmarket area) PRAHRAN (this is a very upmarket area, make sure you have your prada handbag Clifton Hill (young and trendy) Richmond (young and trendy) Brunswick (becoming young and trendy) Carlton (young, trendy and families) Carlton North (young, trendy and families) Flemington (young, trendy and families) Caufield (a little bit further out 15-20 min from city) Hawthorn (families, well off) South Melbourne (young, trendy and families) Port Melbourne(young, trendy and families) Albert Park(young, trendy and families) (last three are quite expensive areas and more family orientated) Last edited by ellie : 04-02-2007 at 03:13 AM. |

| You might find this thread informative. I've just moved to Kensington, which is near Flemington, and it'd rate it pretty much the same as Flemington (young, trendy and families), though the buildings are newer in my area. I've never thought of the cost of living as low, but it's affordable. I have some student friends who are renting and still getting by, though have to be pretty frugal. As ellie said, there's plenty of fun things to do, whether it's art, music (live bands, classical, everything in between), plenty of bars and clubs to cater to all kinds of people/styles/interests. Lots of nice restaurants and cafes again catering to a variety of people/palettes/bank balances. Easy access to forests and bushlands if you like camping, and plenty of gardens and parks. There's some decent beaches within an hour's drive out from the city, though if you want a really nice beach you'd have to drive a little further than that. I'm sure there's much more we could tell you. Is there anything specific you'd like to know? |

| If you have any specific questions, I'm sure Mark, ellie, or I would be able to fill you in! I'm about an hour east of Melbourne - good for a day-trip (parks and gardens, great food and wine), not so good if you're only in town for 3 months. That said, it is cheaper, and the public transport isn't too bad. Also, can vouch for what Mark and ellie have said so far! Cheers, Claire

| Yarravilles another up and coming area. What type of things are you intrested in scumbag? What draws you to Melbourne? Another thing I love about Melbourne is all our Parks and Gardens. Although, must admit the drought is making it a bit hard, to keep it looking pretty. Last edited by ellie : 04-02-2007 at 04:40 AM. |

I love experiencing new countries and cultures. I lived in Cuba for a year. I'm tired of the Untied States. The women are beautiful from what I've heard. Just trying to expand my horizons. |
