Default the ineffectiveness involved in effectiveness

I cannot seem to attain the personal effectiveness that I seek.

Is this because in seeking to be personally effective I assert the existence of the personal ineffectiveness which I m trying to eliminate?

Yup.

Are you focusing on being more effective (having more of whatever it is you want in your life) or on your lack of effectiveness? It's a sort of glass half-full, glass half-empty question and it's easy to flip-flop back and forth on this kind of thing. Just aim where you want to go.

What is the level of personal effectiveness that you seek?

Effectiveness is a binary criteria. Either what you do is effective at what you intended it for or it isn't. If you take this position then you will succeed more at what you do.

Allowing effectiveness to run on a scale puts forth the possibility that you will succeed, yet fail. This is worse than an actual failure.

Success is great, failure is great. Both get you closer to where you need to be. But successes that aren't successes and failures that aren't failures get you nowhere but confused.

I'm focussing a bit on what I want but probably a fair bit also on the difficulty of bringing it about.

I only seem to know what I want in general terms which is comfortable amount of money and to express or be myself.

Even these wants are tending to change in emphasis as the days go by e.g. maybe I don't want as much money at the moment as I did a couple of weeks ago.

I see the same problem of binarity with aiming where I want go as with in/effectiveness, that is, in aiming I assert the existence of the point I want to move from. Do you see it another way?

You know, James, I really need to get at least a sufficient amount of income and I want to be/express myself. I want to move away from the frustrating, festering, entropic search for what I'm going to do and just do it. From time to time I want other things as well.

I'm not sure this tells me much at the moment. Are you a get what you pay for PD coach?

What if you edited the first sentence:

"I have not yet attained the personal effectiveness I seek."

It's a work in progress. It's OK. You haven't failed.

What about instead of focusing on that which you are trying to eliminate (an "away-from" motivator as I've learned) and instead focus on what you want to move towards?

Okay, Lost', thanks. 'I have not yet ...' is better. I hadn't actually noticed my limiting language of 'I cannot'. I actually have been feeling more like 'I have not yet' over the last couple of months. I have had a kind of beleif in my own progress even if outer measures of it were slim. It is more recently that that optimism has evaporated somewhat.

I think I'm wanting the sort of effectiveness that doesn't depend for its existence on its opposite. Maybe I can't get this by wanting for wanting also implies the necessity of, at some point, not having.

Can anyone see a way past this?
