Default Frustration and monotiny at work

I work at call center about 40 hours a week where we troubleshoot internet issues. The job seems to constantly drain and frustrate me. Especially when we have many calls coming in and there is one call after another all day long. What ends up happening I get aggitated because pretty much all calls are the same and just get sick of talking to people or customers. By the end of the day I don't to speak to anyone and pretty much hate coming to work.

I'm a grad student full time at night and with little expierience it a good job especially in my area.

I have tried to use this as tool to develope my self disciple and build my tolerance to doing things I don't really want to do. It just seems after about a day that seems to wear off and I am back to being frustrated.

I don't want to quit I looking for ways to deal with and continually build my self-discipline.

Are their any strategies, things I need to focus on , or techniques that can help me get through the day without drifting towards this negative attitude?

Just know that you are not alone my friend. In fact, the vast majority of people work jobs that are less than their idea of fulfilling. I used to work as a counselor within a locked facility for teens. I've been bit, stabbed and attacked any way you can imagine. To add to this, the directors thought nothing of it and would detach themselves from what was really going on. This was intensely frustrating to me.

What really helps in these situations is to fully develop your vision of what you desire. Going to grad school, I assume you have some plans for yourself. Focus intensely on what they are. Develop a mental image of you doing what it is you love once you graduate. Make this image a reality in your mind. Doing so, your job will begin to really feel like a temporary pit stop to your final destination. Also, while you are still there try to focus on what the job is giving you aside from money. Although frustrating, a job like that will help build very good communication skills which will be invaluable for the rest of your life. Working a call center is tough and many people would not be able to do it. Just remember, the people on the phone are not making you frustrated. You are creating your own reality and your own frustration. Nobody has the power to make you frustrated except yourself.

Self-discipline is all well and good, but if you are in a job you hate, you need an estimated exit date and a light at the end of the tunnel to stay motivated. If you will need the income from this job for quite awhile, then I would look around the office. Are the supervisory positions better? You may be able to get off the phone and earn more money if you get promoted. This could be your goal. Or maybe there is another department that you could transfer to.

Keep looking around the internet and among your friends, aquaintances, and school placement office to see if there are any other jobs out there. Meanwhile, if you are not under pressure to take as many calls as possible, you can get to know your customers a little. This can alleviate the boredom.

Perhaps try to reangle your perspective on your work. The calls may all be the same to you, but every single one is an opportunity to help someone who has never encountered the problem before. If you help them fix it and do it in a really memorable and friendly way, you'll probably make their day.

Many call centre staff sound like you feel; impatient, bored, annoyed at the customer just for existing. To find someone really friendly and helpful, who listens carefully and solves the problem you want solved is quite rare. I have sometimes asked to speak to someone's manager when they have really stood out, and told the manager they provided exceptional service. I can't be the only person who does that.

If you make enough of an effort, you might get promoted, and then you'll have something more interesting and better-paid to make yourself the best at.
