Exclamation Problem forming mental images while reading books

I've had this issue for a long time, though it has not bothered me much during college since I majored in engineering. I will go into a field (epidemiology) that involves more reading and writing, so I am concerned.

I found programs called "IdeaChain" and "Visualizing and Verbalizing" that could help. Before I put down money, I wanted to see if there are other ways to solve the problem.

Could it be a psychological issue, instead of a reading comp issue? Do I just have a strong aversion to books? Are there any other programs that can help?

Any input would be appreciated.

Perhaps it's obvious and I'm just not getting it. Why do you need form mental images while reading books?

I've been able to read material and memorize the details. However, I've never been able to understand the material. I am not able to tell another person the main point of the article, book, etc.

Mental images help better understand the material.

I used to have that problem, too, and it disappeared after I did TIME Techniques -- I went from black screen to psychedelic Peter Max fantasy images from one day to the next.
