Post Polyphasic Sleep - My First Attempt

Hello all,

I was stumbling the other day.. and came across Uberman's Sleeping. I read the study and was very intrigued. So I thought I would give a whirl, I understood the risks and I am okay with them. Then, Last night I told my friend I was going to start the Uberman's sleep pattern and he found Steve's blog ( I think he google'd Uberman's sleep ) and sent me the link so I started reading it.. fell in love with the site.. and I believe it is going to help me with my own personal project.

This is my 4th day of Polyphasic Sleep and now wish to log it, just for curious readers

Day 1
Saturday, Oct 30 2010 - The day after first hearing of Polyphasic Sleeping.. I took my 20 minute naps ( following steve's log I tried to plan atleast 30 minutes for the nap to get used to them ) at 2:30AM, 6:30AM, 10:30AM, 3:30PM (Lunch Break at work), 9PM.. this was my first attempt. The friday before I had woke up really late, at around 2PM.. then first slept at 2:30AM on saturday.

Day 2
Sunday, Oct 31 2010 - This day passed by really quickly.. I did take 20 minute naps, but I did not write them down.. Instead I kind of just followed the clock.. Roughly the exact same times... needless to say.. I called in to work that day =/

Day 3
Monday, Nov 1 2010 - It was a little bit easier this day than before.. I followed the same times roughly except I had to nap on my lunch break so there was about a 5 and a half hour shift.. Definately some Fog but I was able to make decisions and I did have to drive to and from work. The drive was okay.. I didnt feel impaired, just tired. I went to sleep at 9 when I got home and as well as an extra nap at around 12:30AM.. but it didnt turn out so well..

Day 4
Tuesday, Nov 2 2010 - Started off different.. The alarm I had set for this nap, I accidentally changed the time to PM instead of AM.. I ended up waking up at around 4 AM =/ So I did get 4 hours of sleep I shouldn't have.. Took my next nap at 10:50AM right before work.. So now I am here at work, I will have to move my next nap back until 4 30PM.. so it does add an extra hour and half or so before the next nap.. I managed well yesterday and so far so good.. A little hard on the eyes.. but other than that I feel great so far.

------------------------------

I will try to edit this and take out a lot of the fluff.. Maybe once my body gets use to the changes 100%

To those out there trying this, I wish you luck! It definitely is different than the norm!

Don't change your nap times whilst you're adapting. If you take extra naps, it will prevent your body making the adjustments towards Polyphasic sleep.

When I was adjusting, it seemed that just a little extra sleep here or an extra nap there would make all the difference. But it won't. In the end, I decided to make decisions at least one full day in advance, so that I couldn't make rash decisions- you aren't at your best, when you're tired.

Make your plan and stick to it. Don't let up for at least a week, probably two. If you start putting in extra naps this early, then you may as well stop, because it's not going to work out.
