Hi everyone, My goals as stated earlier are blogger and performance artist (stripper). These are the long term difficult dream job ideas. My backup plan is to be a therapist. I could get a Masters in Psychology and become a psychologist. Or get a Masters in Social Work and become a Social Worker, preferably an international social worker. But I went to Duke and usually people who go to top schools don't feel the need to go back to school, at least not anytime soon. Also I'm more of a debt free person. I'd rather make little and be debt free than make a lot and be steeped in debt. This is partly because I have a dream of traveling around the world and living in other countries so if I was steeped in debt with a mortgage and children I wouldn't be able to do this. So I'm thinking that I shouldn't go back to school. But how can I find a good job in this field without going back to school? There are LPCs (licensed professional counselor) but I think they need master's degrees. There are also MFT (marriage and family therapists) but when I checked they have master's degrees. There are also LADCs (licensed addiction drug counselors) and other types of substance abuse counselors. I'm not really into treating people for substance abuse, I'd rather focus on something more universal, like anxiety. Any ideas would be appreciated as usual. |

You've mentioned a number of possible career options. Do you feel a pull towards any of them more than the others? If so, you may want to explore those more. Talk to people in the profession. Find out what an average day is like. You also mentioned that you want to travel. Do you want to be able to practice this profession or use these skills in those countries? If you have a clear vision of the end result, you can work backwards and find out what training you need to do what you want to do. There may be certificate programs that would teach you the skills you need. Another option is to look into organizations like Peace Corps that allow you to travel to other countries and help. That was the only one that came to mind. I know there are many others! |
